Engineer, Data Center Operations

Overview In this role you ensure Data Center and Access Center activities follow procedures and best practices, handling install, relocation and daily checks with attention to security and record-keeping. You manage third-party performers and ensure changes align with Change Control and SLA requirements, using Service Now and other tools. You support capacity management for cables and hardware for ICE and colocations, keeping accurate asset records and reporting anomalies. The role combines hands-on infrastructure work with cross-functional collaboration to maintain reliability and uptime. ResponsibilitiesInstallation, relocation and recovery of Network, Server and Storage hardware to manufacturer standards and industry best practiceRepair of hardware to major component level across vendor equipmentExecute work according to Data Center work processes and proceduresManage goods in/out for dedicated storage facility and maintain full records of assets and availabilityReceipt and processing of damaged/failed hardware via Return Merchandise Authorisation (RMA)Carry out monthly audits of stored items and report anomaliesUpdate asset records, tracking locations and status (deployed, ceased, etc)Daily housekeeping checks of data halls and recording findingsControl Data Center stocks (copper/fibre leads, patch panels, connectors) and reportProvide holiday and sickness cover to support and maintain OLA’s & SLA’s Key requirements5+ years’ experience in Data Center environmentsPro-active and flexible, able to work in team or independentlyEffective written and verbal communication at all levelsStrong attention to detailDesire to learn and progress within the companyExperience of hardware installation standards and knowledge of copper and fibre cabling installations; preferred qualifications include HP Accredited Platform Specialist; Systimax Installation & Maintenance ND3361; Corning NPI MembershipBasic network knowledge and broad IT hardware experience (HP, Dell, Nokia, Ciena, Cisco, Juniper, Arista)Understanding of IP networksExperience in ITIL environment with Change Control, Incident Management & Problem Management processesProficient in Microsoft Office and CRM databasesAbility to prioritise effectivelyAbility to manage 3rd party contract staff/companies in the DCExcellent time management skillsProactiveFlexibleAttention to detailHardware installation standardsCopper and fibre cabling installationsRMA process
