Previous successful experience in public school administration preferred, particularly in the area of athletics and/or student services. Strong organization skills and an ability to work effectively with a wide variety of people. Knowledge and experience in the management use of computers and other technology and familiar with athletic software programs (arbiter, RAS, Schedule Star, etc.) Effective communication skills in writing, speaking and listening. A student-centered and visible style leadership. A strong work ethic and commitment to team concept. Responsibilities:Provides supervision and leadership of the athletic programs at the high school. Convenes and chairs all athletic council meetings and disseminates results to all interested parties. Coordinates in-service activities for coaches and/or athletic personnel. Coordinates use of facilities with coaches. Posts coaching vacancies. Interviews all applicants for coaching positions as directed by the high school principal. Recommends candidates to the principal and the superintendent of schools. Serves as a resource person and advisor in the selection of coaches. Orients all athletic staff to the corporation, building, and IHSAA athletic procedures. Annually evaluates the performance of coaching personnel and, based on these evaluations, makes appropriate recommendations to the high school principal, assistant superintendent, and superintendent of schools. Continuously assesses the effectiveness of all aspects of the entire program. Promotes effective and creative coaching and improves this standard through careful supervision and evaluation. Recommends and approves, in cooperation with the high school principal or his/her designee, the personnel who will attend clinics, meetings, conferences, and tournaments. Consults with the high school principal, assistant superintendent, and superintendent of schools concerning necessary athletic staff reassignments, reductions, and additions well in advance of assignment notification dates and budget preparation. Assists coaches in initiating and maintaining support programs with other schools. Attends a number of practices for each sport and gives immediate feedback to coaches. Comments should be part of formal end of season evaluation. Administers systematic and efficient purchasing procedures for athletic materials and equipment and instructs staff in such procedures. Provides all required information to the IHSAA according to required time lines. Evaluates and approves requests for athletic uniforms, equipment, and materials. Provides leadership in the determination of appropriate long and short-term program goals and objectives. Works with middle school athletic personnel to ensure consistency and continuity between middle school and high school programs. Evaluates and approves with the consent of the high school principal all fundraising efforts conducted by athletic teams. Creates fundraising opportunities for programs in need of financial assistance. Prepares annual athletic budget supporting vision of the Athletic Department and maintains records of expenditures. Assumes the leadership role of the booster club. In charge of team transportation. Community and Public Relations:Reflects an image to the public that facilitates the development and maintenance of public confidence in the schools. Approves and distributes to the media and to the public, in cooperation with the high school principal or his/her designee, news releases, interviews, schedules, and other information. Coordinates/Supervises Wellness Program for School and Community Serves as the initial contact with the media and other civic and community groups regarding requests for interviews, broadcasts, speeches, presentations, etc. Cooperates with the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) and community sports groups using the high school facilities. Develops and coordinates with respective coaches a program of communication with the CPHS guidance department and with colleges and universities concerning enrollment and athletic scholarship opportunities for athletes. Serves as the direct liaison for parents in respect to student involvement in Crown Point High School's athletic programs. Other:Participates in School Corporation planning and decision-making in such a way that the best educational interests of the high school athletics program and the school corporation in general are represented. Performs other tasks as directed by the high school principal. Sets the vision for the Athletic Department overseeing procedures, schedules, coaching techniques, program development, expenditures, and plan for continual improvement. While performing the duties of this job, the Crown Point High School Athletic Director is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, talk, hear (in quiet and loud environments from a whisper to yells), and travel from the building to other sites. The Athletic Director is required to interact with the public, staff, and faculty; to meet deadlines with sever time constraints; and to frequently work irregular hours and/or extended days. The demands of extended workdays require a high level of physical endurance and the ability to handle mental stress. This job requires the ability to handle and balance multiple demands at the same time. The Athletic Director is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, to stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or crawl. The Athletic Director must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to quickly adjust focus.
