Backend Engineer

About The RoleThe Backend Engineer designs and operates the services, APIs, and data systems behind user-facing products used at scale. The role focuses on building reliable distributed systems in Go or Java, with PostgreSQL, Redis, Kafka, and AWS supporting high-throughput workflows.The engineer partners with product, frontend, mobile, and infrastructure teams to turn product requirements into resilient backend capabilities. This role matters because service performance, data integrity, and operational reliability directly shape the customer experience.Key ResponsibilitiesDesign and implement production services and REST or gRPC APIs using Go, Java, or a comparable strongly typed languageBuild event-driven workflows with Kafka or an equivalent messaging platform, including retry handling, idempotency, and failure recoveryModel, query, and optimize data in PostgreSQL and Redis, improving indexing, transaction design, and system performanceDeploy and operate services on AWS using Docker, Kubernetes, and infrastructure-as-code workflows such as TerraformEstablish observability with metrics, structured logging, distributed tracing, and alerting through tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, or DatadogWrite unit, integration, and contract tests; participate in design reviews, code reviews, incident response, and continuous improvements to engineering standardsWhat We Are Looking For3–8 years of professional software engineering experience, with substantial experience building and operating backend services in productionStrong proficiency in Go, Java, Kotlin, or a comparable backend programming languageHands-on experience designing RESTful or gRPC APIs, distributed systems, asynchronous processing, and service-to-service integrationsProduction experience with PostgreSQL or another relational database, including schema design, query optimization, and transactional consistencyWorking knowledge of AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, and operational practices for highly available servicesBachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent professional experienceBonus: Experience with Kafka, GraphQL, Terraform, OpenTelemetry, high-volume systems, or mobile and consumer product backends
