Description Position Title: Certified Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor Reports to: Director of Social Services Employment Status: Full-Time Department: Social Services Position Status: Essential FLSA Status: Exempt GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION The Certified Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC) provides direct clinical care services to clients in need of alcohol and substance abuse counseling DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIESConduct client screeningComplete comprehensive diagnostic assessmentsEngage clients in counseling using motivational interviewing techniques, to facilitate harm reduction, readiness for behavior change and recovery as well as relapse preventionDevelop and run substance abuse counseling groupsDevelop relationships with a wide range of community substance abuse treatment providers and programs, including residential treatment programs as referral resourcesRefer clients to outside agencies and treatment programs, when indicated, and facilitate client engagement in treatment programs as referral resourcesWork with clients to integrate substance abuse treatment as they transition to housing in the communityDocument all clinical work (individual and/or group) into DHS computerized case management system (CARES) in a timely manner or as requestedIn the event of an emergency, Essential Employees are required to report to work as scheduledDuties and responsibilities are subject to change based upon assessment of company needs SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONSHigh School Diploma or equivalent requiredMust have CASAC certificationMust be able to communicate effectively (verbally and in writing)Must have experience and comfortability with using motivational interviewing techniquesPrevious work experience with the homeless population and DHS Cares is preferred Requirements SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONSHigh School Diploma or equivalent requiredMust have CASAC certificationMust be able to communicate effectively (verbally and in writing)Must have experience and comfortability with using motivational interviewing techniquesPrevious work experience with the homeless population and DHS Cares is preferred
