Scrap Inspector

This is not considered to be an all-encompassing list of responsibilities, and additional duties may be assigned as needed to support the business.Inspect all inbound scrap via tractor trailer and direct trucks where to dump load.As requested, assist in inspecting inbound scrap via railroad car.Spot check suspected radioactive cars or truck loads with handheld Geiger counterSpot check suspected off chemistry scrap with handheld Niton XRF machine.As requested, assist in tracking or isolating suspected scrap for off chemistry heats at the furnace.Notify material handler operators when loads are clear to add to existing stockpileAdvise Production Supervisor or scrap yard operators when scrap has been cleared and they begin shearing/cutting/processing.Provide data needed to complete daily reports to the Clerk on the scrap yard side.Assist Production Supervisor in providing guidance to the general hourly workforce as needed.Must be able to:Bend/stoop for up to 5 minutes while inspecting scrap that is on the ground.Have the ability to climb flights of stairs to reach the inspection stand at the scrapyard.Have the ability to climb the ladder on the side of a rail carHave the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.Have the ability to work in ambient temperatures as low as -10 degrees and as high as 105 degrees, all work will be outdoors.Have the ability to think and make clear decisions under pressureEDUCATION/EXPERIENCESome computer experience preferred, i.e. Excel, Word, generic knowledgePrevious scrap metal experience would be beneficial, but not required.Must have a high school education or equivalentWe offer competitive benefits, including health insurance, life insurance and disability plans, as well as a 401k with company matching.Harsco Environmental is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
