We are expanding our footprint in Tennessee and seeking a seasoned Mechanical Project Director to lead and grow our regional operation. Role Summary The Mechanical Project Director – Tennessee will drive strategic growth, operational excellence, and P&L performance for Conti’s mechanical construction business in the Tennessee market. This leader must bring deep relationships with owners, GCs, developers, and trade partners, have experience with union labor strategies (UA Local 572 – Nashville, UA Local 43 – Chattanooga, UA Local 614 – Memphis), and be capable of originating and delivering large-scale mechanical projects (≥$20M) in industrial, commercial, and automotive sectors. The role combines business development, operational leadership, and team building to scale a high-performing regional office. Key Responsibilities Business Development & Market Growth Develop and execute market strategy for Tennessee with focus on industrial manufacturing, automotive/EV, healthcare, mission-critical, and large commercial projects. Leverage existing relationships to secure negotiated and hard-bid work (target project sizes $10M–$100M+). Represent Conti at UA Local union events, AGC chapters, ASA, and regional industry associations. Oversee proposal strategy, preconstruction, estimating, and risk reviews. Operational Leadership & Delivery Lead multi-project execution: contract negotiation, budgets, schedules, procurement, QA/QC, risk, and change management. Ensure best-in-class safety culture and compliance with Tennessee state/local codes. Implement project controls, cost forecasting, and schedule integration (Primavera P6 or equivalent). Champion prefabrication, modularization, VDC/BIM, and LEAN practices for efficiency. Coordinate closely with electrical teams for integrated MEP delivery. Union & Workforce Strategy Build and maintain strong relationships with UA Local 572, UA Local 43, and UA Local 614 and training programs. Forecast manpower needs; collaborate on dispatch, steward matters, and jurisdictional alignment. Ensure compliance with collective bargaining agreements and project labor agreements. People Leadership & Culture (10%) Recruit, mentor, and retain high-caliber Project Managers, Superintendents, Estimators, and Preconstruction leaders. Establish performance management rhythms and succession pipelines. Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and innovation. Qualifications Required 10–15+ years of progressive mechanical construction leadership experience; 5+ years at Director/Executive level. Proven success winning and delivering mechanical projects $20M–$100M+ in Tennessee. Active relationships with owners, developers, EPCs, and Tier 1 GCs in Tennessee; strong book of business. Union experience (UA locals)—labor strategy, dispatch planning, and collaborative union engagement. Expertise in heavy mechanical scopes: HVAC systems, process piping, hydronic systems, chilled water plants, boilers, industrial ventilation, plumbing systems. Proficiency with estimating, preconstruction, and project controls Strong commercial acumen: contract negotiation, P&L ownership, risk management. KPIs Revenue & backlog growth, win rate, gross margin, safety performance, client satisfaction, talent retention.
