Independent Contractor (1099) - Cost ControllerWork ArrangementOn-site role in Abilene, TexasPrimarily Monday–Friday scheduleOvertime may be required based on project needs and client policyPosition OverviewOur client is seeking a Cost Controller – Electrical / Instrumentation / Automation (EIA) to support a live industrial construction program in Abilene, Texas. This role will focus on managing cost control activities for EIA-related construction packages, including budgeting, forecasting, reporting, change management, and contractor cost tracking.The successful candidate will work closely with project controls, procurement, construction, and contractor teams to ensure accurate cost visibility and reporting throughout project execution. This is an on-site role supporting active field construction operations in a fast-paced EPC/construction environment.This opportunity is ideally suited for candidates with strong cost control and forecasting experience on industrial or EPC construction projects.Key ResponsibilitiesManage cost tracking and reporting activities for Electrical, Instrumentation, and Automation (EIA) construction packagesMaintain project budgets, commitments, accruals, and forecast updates throughout the project lifecycleReconcile purchase orders, invoices, commitments, and actual costs within the project cost systemPrepare monthly cost reports, forecasting updates, variance analysis, and management summariesDevelop and maintain Estimate at Completion (EAC), cost performance metrics (CPI), and trend analysis reportsSupport change management and change control processes, including tracking approved and pending changesCoordinate closely with procurement, construction, contractors, and project controls teams to ensure cost accuracy and alignmentAssist with contractor cost reviews, invoice validation, and audit-ready documentation preparationSupport project leadership with cost analysis, reporting insights, and schedule/cost interface coordinationEnsure compliance with internal cost control procedures and reporting standardsQualifications3–7+ years of cost control experience supporting industrial construction, EPC, energy, or heavy industrial projectsExperience supporting Electrical, Instrumentation, Automation, or multidiscipline construction packages preferredStrong understanding of project cost management, forecasting, accruals, commitments, and change control processesProficiency with JD Edwards, Oracle, or similar ERP/cost management systemsAdvanced Microsoft Excel and cost forecasting/reporting capabilitiesExperience preparing EAC, CPI, variance analysis, and monthly project cost reportsAbility to work effectively within fast-paced construction and field execution environmentsStrong analytical, organizational, and communication skillsExperience supporting live construction projects and contractor interfaces is highly preferred Software Platforms Ecosys,SAP-COSAP-PM a plusViewPoint-TrimbleHSCC heavy jobProcorPower BIOracle P6 cost modules.
