We grow over 100 varieties of vegetables for our year-round CSA, our farmstores in the Boston Public Market and Boston’s South End, and area restaurants including family-owned Oleana, Sofra, and Sarma. We use regenerative, biological agricultural practices to build our soil’s health and productivity, free of chemical herbicides, pesticides, and synthetic fertilizers.Job DescriptionWe are seeking hardworking, high-energy, positive individuals who are motivated by a career interest in food and sustainable agriculture to join our team. Siena Farms’ Assistant Retail Manager is a lead member of the year-round retail staff for our 50-acre organic vegetable farm. They are supervised by our Retail Manager, as well as our Business Manager and Farmer Chris. They work closely with other managers and members of the Siena Farms’ team, to help professionally operate and grow sales at Siena Farms South End, our Boston Public Market farm store, and possible additional future retail outlets.ResponsibilitiesPrimary responsibilities of our Assistant Retail Manager include but are not limited to assisting our Retail Manager with the oversight and execution of the following areas:Support Store Operations: Assist the retail manager in overseeing the daily operations of both farm stores. Help oversee opening and closing procedures, cash handling, and inventory management. Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures.Team Management Support: Support the retail manager in supervising and motivating retail staff. Collaborate with the retail manager on annual performance evaluations. Assist in the hiring process, including screening applications and interviewing retail staff candidates. Assist in training new employees and providing ongoing coaching and development. Help foster a positive and collaborative work environment.Customer Service: Provide excellent customer service by assisting customers with inquiries, concerns, and product recommendations. Handle customer issues and ensure resolutions are reached promptly and effectively. Lead by example in delivering exceptional service to maintain high levels of customer satisfaction.Sales Support: Assist in implementing sales strategies to achieve revenue targets. Help analyze sales data and identify opportunities for improvement. Support the execution of promotional events and campaigns to drive sales.Inventory Management and Sourcing: Assist in monitoring and managing inventory levels to meet customer demand and minimize waste. Support the retail manager in submitting daily orders from the farm and other suppliers. Help ensure accurate inventory counts and proper stock rotation. Support efforts to optimize inventory turnover and reduce shrinkage.Financial Support: Help analyze sales reports and identify areas for improvement or cost savings. Support efforts to control costs and maximize profitability.Community Engagement: Represent Siena Farms in the local community and assist in participating in community events and initiatives. Help build and maintain relationships with local customers, organizations, and stakeholders.Secondary responsibilities of our Assistant Retail Manager, when and if the primary responsibilities of retail management are accomplished at any given time during the season, include but are not limited to the following: assisting out at the farm with crop production, harvest, wash-up, and CSA packs, office administrative duties and general business planning and development, etc.Our Assistant Retail Manager, like all of our employees, is held to high standards for organization, inter-managerial/crew communication, positive attitude, respect and kindness for coworkers, work quality, and professional work ethic and schedule.This position is full-time and is available immediately. The weekly schedule will be discussed in detail during the interview process. Annual salary is commensurate with experience.
