Designer/Drafter 2Compa Industries is searching for qualified candidates for Designer/Drafter 2 positions for the Los Alamos National Laboratory!Salary: $33-$40/hrLocation: Los Alamos, NM (100% onsite)Citizenship: US citizenship RequiredWork Schedule: 4/10s, Monday–Thursday, 5:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.Clearance: Must have the ability to obtain Q Clearance🚫 Mandatory Experience Requirement – Read Before ApplyingCandidates must be able to work 100% onsite and perform walkdowns in Radiological areas.Candidates must be eligible to obtain a security clearance (active clearance preferred).Candidates must have hands-on CAD drafting experience (AutoCAD required; applications without CAD experience will not be considered).Must have a valid Driver's LicenseImpactThe Designer/Drafter will support preconstruction and execution activities by producing detailed drawings, layouts, and material takeoffs that directly enable successful fabrication and installation efforts. This role ensures designs are accurate, constructible, and aligned with industry codes, customer specifications, and operational requirements. The position contributes to mission-critical mechanical, electrical, and fire suppression system projects within a highly regulated technical environment.Responsibilities and DutiesProduce and detail routine drawings and layouts of components, facilities, and systemsGenerate and modify computer-aided design (CAD) drawings of moderate complexity based on provided informationUse industry codes, standards, and customer specifications to prepare work plans, drawings, and layoutsWork with engineering teams to ensure drawing quality and accuracyDevelop CAD drawings and design models under the direction of a senior designerPerform calculations in support of technical problemsApply engineering design principles to the design and fabrication of components and assembliesProduce work in accordance with budget and schedule constraintsParticipate in two-phase design review cycles (initial and final reviews)Conduct design reviews prior to construction to ensure readiness for executionDevelop shop drawings with dimensions to support craft installationPerform material takeoffs from native files and support procurement with accurate material orderingUnderstand fabrication, construction, operation, and maintenance requirements relevant to the designated disciplineConduct walkdowns in TA-55, PF4, and various warehouses (government vehicle provided)Work independently and as part of a teamParticipate in process improvement activitiesMinimum QualificationsDesigner/Drafter 2High school diploma and 3–5 years of related drafting/design experience, or equivalent combination of education and experienceExperience using CAD drafting tools (AutoCAD preferred)Ability to perform work onsite in a radiological environment (PF4)Ability to work 4/10 schedule (Monday–Thursday, 5:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.)U.S. citizenship requiredAbility to obtain and maintain required security clearanceDesired SkillsExperience with Building Information Modeling (BIM) or 3D modeling toolsMechanical drafting experience (primary focus), with exposure to electrical and fire suppression systemsExperience supporting preconstruction design reviews and material takeoffsStrong attention to detail and drawing qualityTrustworthy, dedicated, and team-orientedAbility to work under mentorship initially and transition to independent contributorEducation And Experience RequirementsDesigner/Drafter 2: 3–5 years of related experienceEquivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
