Position Title: Directional Drill Operator Our Core Values: Guided by Safety. Focused on Communities. Powered by Care.Classification: Non-ExemptEssential Functions:Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.The Directional Drilling Operator will be primarily responsible for setup and completion of drilling variable sized underground holes and pulling back required conduit. Drilling Operator will work with the Outside Plant Supervisor, the Locator and the Laborers to complete job requirements from start to finish on outside plant projects including digging boring pit, directional boring, pulling back of conduit, splicing of conduit sections, pulling fiber through conduit, setting hand holes, backfilling and seeding, core drilling and pot holing, building penetrations and close out pictures and redlines.Roles and Responsibilities:Operate Horizontal Directional DrillAssist in potholing and remediationAssist with setting hand holes and completing tie insDrive equipment to job siteConfirms with locator/lead the bore path to drillSet equipment up including the drill, water tanks and grounding the machineDrill out following the predetermined drill path to the exit pitCommunicate with the locator/lead via radio to confirm the location of the drill headAssist with the install of proper pulling gear and hook up productReverse process to install productOversee laborers and/or crew member's work and monitor time usageConduct post-job quality checksClean, check fluid levels and conduct a visual inspection of vehicle/equipment to assure your vehicle/equipment is performing at optimum safety, perform the required pre-trip, post trip inspections and the required paperwork, perform needed maintenance including winterizing equipment.Communicates with Supervisor daily to turn in required paperwork (i.e. Bore log, vehicle maintenance reports, etc.)Follows specifications for the job and company policiesSuccess Factors:Ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods, often under adverse climatic conditions.Ability to lift up to 80 lbs multiple times during a work shiftAbility to climb, dig, work in tight spaces, on uneven surfaces, walking, stooping, and kneelingAbility to understand and follow specific oral and written instructionsAbility to work well independently and as a part of a team with co-workersAbility to pass motor vehicle, criminal background check, and comply with drug-free workplace policyEnglish usage sufficient to keep records, place orders, and prepare simple narrative reportsWillingness and ability to learn additional skills Experience and Education: 1+ years of demonstrated Horizontal Directional Drilling experienceStrong knowledge of underground utilitiesWorking knowledge of DOT regulations (Vehicle and Operator Qualifications)Understanding of client and company work specificationsAbility to comply with the "Operator's Manual" for your equipmentAbility to read and comprehend and follow all quality/safety policies and proceduresSelf-motivated, safety, quality and production mindedCDL A a plusAbility to work in all types of weatherKnowledge of underground pot holing preferredSelf-motivated, safety, quality and production mindedAdditional Requirements/Licenses/Certifications:Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid State of Residence Driver's License is required within two weeks of employment.Candidates must pass criminal and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) background checks and pass a pre-employment drug screen.Notes:The statements herein are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by employees and are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of responsibilities, duties, and skills required of personnel so classified.
