The Chair of the Department of Pediatricswill advance the clinical, research, and educational enterprises for Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons, with primary responsibility for the continued success, growth, and leadership of a dynamic team of 275 full-time faculty members. This highly talented team of pediatricians is unified by a shared vision and mission, caring for one of the sickest, most complex, and diverse patient populations in the country. This pediatrician and leader will also serve as the Physician-in-Chieffor NewYork-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital, the largest inpatient facility within the Children's Hospital of New York (CHONY), which is one of the largest providers of children's health services in the tri-state area.Leadership seeks a visionary leader who will play a pivotal role in advancing the system-wide vision for CHONY and shaping this Department amidst a period of strategic growth as the institution meets the needs of the community and the region, while also caring for patients nationally and internationally. This position will require a deep commitment to fostering collaboration across various disciplines and institutions to enhance the health and well-being of the children cared for in the communities.The successful candidate will be instrumental in aligning departmental initiatives with the overarching CHONY vision, ensuring that key strategies and programs effectively support the advancement of children's health. This role necessitates a close partnership with the Chair of the Department of Pediatrics at Cornell University and engagement with leaders across pediatric subspecialties at both Columbia University and Weill Cornell, promoting an integrated approach to pediatric care that leverages the system's collective expertise and resources.Overall, this position represents an important leadership opportunity in the broader field of academic pediatrics and requires a consummate leader with the vision and experience to ensure that pediatric clinical services, research, and education remain preeminent.An accomplished pediatrician and physician leader with an MD, MD/PhD, or equivalent degree, from a nationally accredited and recognized medical school.Board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics, or equivalent.At least five years of administrative and leadership experience serving as a Department Chair, Physician-in-Chief, Pediatrician-in-Chief, Vice Chair, Section/Division Chief, and/or Institute Director in an academic medical center, children's hospital, or school of medicine.Experience in clinical, research, and teaching achievement, commensurate with appointment to the Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons faculty at the rank of Professor.A dedicated clinician with a reputation for clinical excellence; an actively practicing pediatrician is preferred.Track record of faculty management experience, including experience developing and implementing faculty retention, recruitment, and developmental initiatives.Clinical operations experience, including a track record of improving the efficiency and quality of services, ideally with experience expanding services.Experience growing research programs and promoting academic excellence.Track record of supporting the education and training mission.Ability to advance philanthropic and fundraising activities for the Department.Strong business acumen and communication skills; ability to influence and negotiate within a highly matrixed, large and complex organization.Ability to respond effectively to elements that drive competitive advantage under dynamic conditions, such as healthcare industry changes, competitor actions, and technological trends.Demonstrated ability to build and sustain collegial relationships with peers, faculty, health system leaders,representatives for outside organizations, and community stakeholders.Candiate must meet requirments for medical licensure in New York State.
