School Counselor - College & Career Readiness
We are seeking an ambitious and innovative individual to grow our 7-12 College and Career Readiness program. An ability to develop relationships with a broad range of colleges and communicate the benefits of an IB education is essential. Primary responsibilities include oversight and implementation of the IB Campus’ post-secondary support and preparation program for grades 7-12. School Lane values working closely with individual students and families to craft their unique path following high school. The College and Career Coordinator is responsible for supporting students and their families through the college selection and application and for supporting and guiding students who choose a non-college path after high school. This includes oversight and coordination of the Career Readiness program grades 7-12, under Act 339 Career and Technical Education Standards. The coordinator works with students throughout their time at School Lane through a series of workshops and classes in addition to the individual meetings, which occur with increasing frequency as the student approaches the college application process.Some Duties IncludeMonitors student schedules to ensure they meet graduation requirements, and assists students in course selection and the scheduling process.Assist students in making decisions about their careers and future academic endeavors. Assist students in career planning by developing academic plans and/or transition plans in accordance with their skills, talents, and strengths.Advises students on college admission requirements, entrance exams, scholarships, financial aid, and on trade or technical schools and apprenticeship programs.Plans and coordinates campus-wide guidance activities including but not limited to Career Day, High School Fair, etc.RequirementsMasters’ Degree in School CounselingPennsylvania Certification in Secondary School CounselingPrior experience as a secondary school counselor a plusPrior experience with Naviance a plusExperience with International Baccalaureate Diploma Program a plusAbility to positively interact with students to encourage developmentExperience in alternative conflict resolution, facilitation and mediation/peer mediationSupportive, empathetic, nurturing and patient personality and excellent listening skillsStrong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to communicate effectively with all students, staff, and parentsAbility to work effectively in a collaborative environmentExpert level experience with MS OfficeApplicants who do not yet have their PA teaching certificate may upload the official College Verification of Eligibility Letter, which states you have successfully completed the program and are eligible for certification in lieu of the PA teaching certification document.Thank you for your interest in a position with School Lane Charter School.
