This position is responsible for the total process of : detection, prevention, investigation, compiling of evidence, computation of the over-payments, initiation of the recovery action, (court or otherwise) and the collection and tracking of over-payments, in all cases of fraud and abuse, or other over-payments, in the public assistance cases administered in the Income Maintenance Section of the department. The employee must explain program requirements and options and refer clients to other program services as appropriate.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES: This position requires a through working knowledge of all Income Maintenance programs administered by the department, and a general knowledge of all social services programs. The position requires through knowledge of the use of manuals and other policies used in administering the Income Maintenance Programs and knowledge of the investigative procedures and techniques of the judicial system. The position requires a thorough knowledge of the computer programs used in administering the Income Maintenance Programs. The person in this position must be skilled in communication and able to effectively communicate with staff, clientele, courtroom personnel, and law enforcement as well as other people in the community to collect necessary evidence and support actions taken. The position must be able to make written and verbal reports relating to their findings in investigations, as required by the department, the courts, the state, and others. The position must be able to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as being able to work with staff, law enforcement, the court system, other departments, and the general public, in properly establishing claims and collecting over-payments, to maintain the integrity of the department's programs. This position requires the person to have a valid NC Driver's license and a verified excellent driving record. The person in this position must be mobile and able to travel in completing investigations in various, and sometimes risky, locations, and be able to attend any necessary training. The person in this position must be able to provide a clean criminal history report.MINIMUM QUALIFICATION: An Associate Degree in Human Services Technology, Social Services Associate, Paralegal Technology, Criminal Justice, Business Administration, Secretarial Science or a closely related curriculum and two years of experiences as an Income Maintenance Caseworker or Investigator; or, graduation from high school and three years of experience as an Income Maintenance Caseworker or Income Maintenance Investigator; or graduation from high school and two years of investigative experience in credit , legal, or law enforcement work plus eighteen months of experience as an Income Maintenance Caseworker or Income Maintenance Investigator; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: NC FAST experience, Multiple Income Maintenance program experienceAPPLICATION PROCESS: Submit state application (PD-107) required for employment to:Division of Workforce Solutions - Hoke County Location304 Birch Street, Raeford, NC 28376Applications emailed, faxed, dropped off or mailed directly to Hoke DSS Office will not be accepted.
