Instruction emphasizes close reading, careful textual analysis, and thoughtful writing grounded in significant works of the Western literary tradition.Students encounter texts that develop moral imagination, intellectual depth, and eloquent expression. The teacher guides students in developing strong reading habits, analytical thinking, and clear written communication while cultivating a classroom culture that values attentiveness, discussion, and intellectual virtue.This position requires delivering rigorous classical instruction in an engaging virtual environment while maintaining strong relationships with students and families.Primary ResponsibilitiesPlan and deliver rigorous English instruction aligned with Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS)Lead students in the close reading and analysis of literary works and historical textsTeach grammar, composition, and rhetoric through structured writing instructionFacilitate thoughtful discussion and textual analysis through Socratic dialogueProvide detailed feedback on student writing to support the development of clear and persuasive expressionAssess student progress through essays, exams, projects, and other assessmentsMaintain strong communication with students and families in a virtual environmentParticipate in faculty collaboration, curriculum development, and professional development aligned with the Founders missionUse technology in ways that support learning while preserving the text-centered nature of classical literary studyQualificationsRequiredBachelor’s degree in English, Literature, Humanities, or a related fieldStrong knowledge of classical and Western literary traditionsExcellent writing, editing, and communication skillsAbility to facilitate meaningful literary discussionAbility to teach effectively within a virtual instructional modelPreferredTexas Teaching Certification (ELAR 4–8 or 7–12)Master’s degree in English, Literature, or Liberal ArtsExperience teaching classical literatureExperience with Socratic discussion and classical pedagogyExperience with online learning platformsAbout Us“We believe that every child should be able to be anything they want in life, regardless of their birthplace and circumstances.” – Ron Packard, CEO & FounderACCEL Schools is a network of 80+ high-performing, public charter schools serving PK-12 students.
