Mechanical Design Engineer
*Role Type:* 12-month contract with potential extension up to 2 years and possible conversion to full-time
We are seeking a highly skilled *Mechanical Design Engineer* to join our engineering team in Milpitas, CA. In this role, you will take ownership of design tasks for simple to moderately complex opto-mechanical assemblies and precision mechanisms. You will drive projects from concept through hands-on prototype building, testing, and transfer to manufacturing.
This role requires a self-starter who can hit the ground running with minimal ramp-up time, utilizing *Creo CAD* to deliver reliable, high-precision engineering solutions.
*Key Responsibilities*
* *Mechanical & CAD Design:* Design and redesign precision mechanical assemblies, sub-assemblies, and opto-mechanical components using Creo.
* *Mechanism Development:* Develop motorized mechanisms, including actuators, linear/rotary stages, rotating assemblies, and fine positioning systems.
* *Hands-On Prototyping:* Build, assemble, and integrate physical prototypes and test fixtures in a lab environment.
* *Design Validation:* Plan and execute rigorous testing to validate mechanical functionality, precision, and design modifications.
* *Engineering Analysis:* Perform basic thermal and structural FEA to evaluate and optimize design performance under operational conditions.
* *Manufacturing Transfer:* Document test results, generate engineering drawings, and support the seamless transfer of designs into production.
*Required Qualifications*
* *Education:* Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field.
* *Experience:* 5 to 7+ years of professional industry experience in mechanical design.
* *CAD Expertise:* Strong, direct proficiency in *Creo CAD* (candidates with deep experience in SolidWorks/Inventor who have prior exposure to Creo and can adapt rapidly will also be considered).
* *Precision Design:* Proven experience in precision mechanism design (e.g., tight tolerances, fine alignment, low-backlash systems).
* *Hands-On Skills:* Demonstrated track record of personally building, troubleshooting, and testing physical mechanical assemblies.
