Spyglass Talent Solutions, a retained recruitment firm based in Raleigh, NC, has been engaged by The Crew to conduct a search for a Utility Crew Leader. The Crew is a utility contractor, based in Zebulon, NC, focusing on a higher purpose than just laying pipe. The mission of The Crew is to raise up construction leaders for the purpose of having a generational impact. The company does this by creating a catalytic work environment, providing practical life training during an employee’s time with The Crew, and through the talents of our coaches, just like this role. The Crew Leader (Lead Foreman) plays a pivotal role in field leadership and team development. This position oversees a six-person utility crew responsible for installing sewer, storm, and water lines on complex and often municipal projects. The Crew Leader is accountable for ensuring that all work, including projects for the City of Raleigh and other regional municipalities, is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with quality and regulatory standards. Beyond project execution, this role focuses on training and mentoring the next generation of utility leaders within the organization. The Crew currently has 3 years of secured project backlog in the Raleigh area, ensuring consistent, high-quality work opportunities for this role. Key Responsibilities: Team Leadership & Training · Leads and mentors a six-person utility crew, focusing on training and developing future crew leaders. · Conducts regular hands-on training to build crew skills in utility installation, safety, and efficiency. · Demonstrates a passion for developing people and modeling The Crew’s leadership values. Project Oversight · Manages daily field operations from project start through closeout, ensuring work is completed on time, within budget, and to quality standards. · Oversees complex utility projects involving sewer, storm, and water line installation. · Leads municipal projects, including work for the City of Raleigh and other regional municipalities, ensuring compliance with local standards and inspection requirements. · Maintains accountability for all on-site activities and production outcomes. Technical Expertise · Applies deep knowledge of utility installation, including trenching, shoring design, and managing high groundwater conditions. · Ensures proper use, maintenance, and coordination of equipment and tools. · Provides technical guidance and problem-solving support to the crew and project team. · Stays current with evolving industry standards and best practices. Safety & Compliance · Promotes and enforces a strong safety culture in accordance with OSHA and company policies. · Leads daily safety meetings and conducts regular inspections to identify and mitigate hazards. Communication & Collaboration · Coordinates closely with project managers, estimators, and leadership to align field activities with project goals. · Maintains professional communication with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors. · Works collaboratively across departments to improve processes and efficiency. Skills/Experience: · Experience in utility construction, with a focus on sewer, stormwater, and domestic water installation. · Manage and execute utility installations for municipal projects such as those for the City of Raleigh, adhering to city specifications, permitting processes, and inspection protocols. · Understand construction drawings, specifications, permits, and layouts. · Proven track record of successfully managing utility projects. · Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire, motivate, and develop a team. · Knowledge of utility construction processes, equipment, and best practices. · Ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues. · Willingness to work in and adapt to challenging and tough conditions.
