Database Engineer

TechFlow is seeking an experienced Database Engineer / Oracle Database Administrator (DBA) to support a mission-critical DoD software development and modernization program in Montgomery, AL. This program provides software development and technical support services to sustain, enhance, and optimize a critical customer system through secure, scalable, and maintainable software solutions.The Database Engineer/DBA will be responsible for the administration, security, performance, and lifecycle management of enterprise Oracle databases supporting mission-critical applications. This role will ensure database environments remain secure, highly available, and optimized while supporting Agile software development and DevSecOps practices. The successful candidate will work closely with software engineers, DevSecOps engineers, system architects, testers, and program leadership to support database modernization initiatives and maintain the integrity, availability, and performance of critical data assets.Key ResponsibilitiesInstall, configure, administer, patch, upgrade, and manage the lifecycle of Oracle database environmentsMonitor database performance, availability, and health, proactively identifying and resolving performance bottlenecks and operational issuesOptimize database performance through tuning, indexing strategies, query optimization, and capacity planningImplement and maintain database security controls, including user access management, encryption, auditing, and compliance with DoD cybersecurity requirementsDevelop, maintain, and regularly validate comprehensive backup, recovery, and disaster recovery procedures to meet Government Recovery Point Objective (RPO) and Recovery Time Objective (RTO) requirementsDesign, implement, and maintain database schema changes using version-controlled migration scripts integrated with CI/CD pipelinesEnsure database deployment scripts are automated, repeatable, defect-free, and environment agnosticMaintain configuration management documentation and version control for all database configurations and settingsSupport end-to-end traceability of database requirements through implementation, testing, and documentationCollaborate with software development teams to design efficient database structures and support application modernization initiativesSupport ETL processes, data integration activities, and maintenance of database metadata and data dictionary documentationParticipate in troubleshooting production issues and implementing continuous improvements to database operationsEnsure compliance with organizational standards for security, quality, documentation, and configuration managementRequirementsBachelor's degree (or equivalent experience) in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or related field. Minimum 5 years of Oracle Database Administration experience supporting enterprise environmentsExtensive experience installing, configuring, patching, upgrading, and administering Oracle databasesExperience developing and managing version-controlled database migration scripts integrated with CI/CD pipelinesStrong knowledge of Oracle database performance tuning, optimization, monitoring, and troubleshootingExperience implementing database security hardening, encryption, auditing, and Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG) complianceExperience designing, implementing, testing, and maintaining enterprise backup and recovery strategiesExperience supporting Oracle databases hosted in cloud environments, including AWSFamiliarity with ETL processes, database integration, and data dictionary documentationExperience working within Agile software development and DevSecOps environmentsExcellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skillsActive Secret Security Clearance Preferred QualificationsExperience supporting U.S. Air Force or other Department of Defense software programsExperience with AWS database services and cloud-native database architecturesFamiliarity with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and automated database deploymentsExperience supporting high-availability and disaster recovery database architecturesKnowledge of Git, GitLab CI/CD, and automated deployment pipelinesExperience with database monitoring and performance management toolsFamiliarity with RMF accreditation processes and DoD cybersecurity policiesBenefitsFounded in 1995 at the start of the dot-com revolution, TechFlow helped large commercial clients such as DreamWorks, Toshiba, MGM, and others modernize their business systems.
