Structural Engineer

Overview:Exercises independent judgment in evaluation, selection and use of standard techniques, and solves problems when encountered. A licensed engineer who works on a variety of projects on structural design, preparation of implementation documentation, coordination with clients and construction administration. Collaborates with the project team to organize and plan projects.Responsibilities:Collaborates with project team to effectively execute structural engineering design and delivery of structural implementation documentsMay coordinate early phase effort for determination of most appropriate structural framing system(s) and project criteria including building code, fire-rating, gravity/lateral loads and other unique requirements of the projectPerforms effectively as a team member during design and/or construction phasesMay prepare and/or review structural specifications for projects at each phase of deliveryMaintains active awareness of the production schedule for responsible task(s)Coordinates structural CA effort including engineering site visitation, field report documentation, submittal review, response to project RFI's, and review of structural change order requestsRevises implementation documents from markups and/or instructions and reviews completed tasks at key intervals for accuracy/completenessReviews work of EIT staffDirects the work of structural drafting staff for implementation documentationUtilizes standard engineering practices and techniques to adjust and correlate data; recognizes and resolves discrepancies in resultsMay be responsible for communication with other disciplines, vendors and contractors to ensure incorporation of all information into project requirementsParticipates in team meetings to discuss project issues, coordination with other disciplines and technical issuesConsistently documents project meetings and telephone conversationsMaintains knowledge of products and materials available on the marketTravel may be requiredQualifications:Education and Experience* Accredited professional degree in Civil, Structural or Architectural Engineering or related field* Typically 5+ years of experienceLicenses and Certifications* Professional engineering or structural engineering licensure required (structural engineering licensure preferred)Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesAdvanced - expert-level experience, knowledge or skillsIntermediate - experience, knowledge or skills required to produce high-quality solutions or workBasic - familiar with primary concepts or capabilities and may perform elementary functions depending on roleIntermediate knowledge of software such as Revit and BIM requiredIntermediate knowledge of structural analytical software requiredIntermediate knowledge of MS Office Suite requiredIntermediate knowledge of building codes, material design standards, select structural standards, constructability, etc. requiredBasic knowledge of project management tools (Vision, Portfolio, etc.) preferredIntermediate knowledge of integrated design, engineering building systems and QA/QC process requiredIntermediate ability to communicate in a clear, concise and professional manner both verbally and in writing requiredIntermediate ability to problem solve and apply innovative solutions requiredIntermediate ability to work and collaborate in a team environment requiredIntermediate ability to work on multiple projects at the same time requiredIntermediate ability to effectively meet deadlines at expected quality requiredBase Salary Range: $84k - $105k annually - Chicago locations only.The estimate displayed represents the general base salary range of candidates hired in the Chicago location only. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range based on the location of the role.
