Job SummaryBureau Veritas is seeking a driven AWS CWI Special Inspector to support immediate Building, Transportation, and Infrastructure projects across New York City. This role is designed for an early-career engineering professional with ICC certifications and hands-on field experience who is actively building expertise in structural inspections, code compliance, and construction quality assurance.The Special Inspector will work on active job sites performing inspections across structural steel, welding, bolting, masonry, and concrete systems, ensuring compliance with NYC Building Code requirements and approved construction documents. This role will place a strong emphasis on welding inspections, weld procedure compliance, welder qualification verification, and nondestructive examination (NDE) coordination in accordance with AWS codes and standards. This position offers exposure to large-scale, complex projects while working alongside experienced inspectors and engineering teams.Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesPerform field inspections of structural steel, welding, bolting, masonry, and concrete work to verify compliance with approved drawings, specifications, and NYC Building Code requirementsConduct inspections in accordance with Chapter 17 of the NYC Building Code, ensuring all work meets required quality and safety standardsPerform visual welding inspections in accordance with AWS D1.1 and other applicable welding codes and project specificationsVerify welder qualifications, welding procedures (WPS/PQR), filler materials, and welding consumables for code complianceMonitor welding activities including fit-up, joint preparation, preheat/interpass temperatures, weld sequencing, and final weld qualityCoordinate and witness nondestructive testing (NDT/NDE) activities including UT, MT, PT, and RT testing performed by third-party techniciansDocument daily field observations, inspection results, and contractor activities in clear, accurate, and timely reportsWitness required construction testing and special inspections in accordance with project specifications and regulatory requirementsIdentify, document, and report non-conforming work, and assist in coordinating corrective actions with contractors and project teamsSupport senior inspectors and engineering staff in resolving field conditions and interpreting construction documentsReview construction drawings, specifications, and shop details to support inspection accuracy and field verificationMaintain organized inspection records, logs, and supporting documentation for project and regulatory complianceCommunicate effectively with contractors, engineers, and project stakeholders to ensure alignment on field conditions and inspection findingsFollow all jobsite safety protocols, including OSHA standards and project-specific safety requirementsAssist in maintaining project schedules by performing timely inspections aligned with construction activitiesParticipate in ongoing training and certification development to expand inspection capabilities and technical expertiseSupervisory ResponsibilitiesThere are no supervisory responsibilities in this role.Education & Certifications EducationBachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Architecture, or related fieldEngineer-in-Training (EIT) designation or actively pursuing Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) licensureCertifications -
