Join a world-class team of scientists, engineers, and business professionals to advance the state-of-the-art in quantum computing.As Opto-Mechanical Engineering Manager, you will lead a team of mechanical and opto-mechanical engineers who are driving the mechanical design, development and integration of subsystems for our quantum computers. You will bring in-depth knowledge of ensuring performance and stability of complex mechanical and opto-mechanical systems.Job RequirementsHire, lead, mentor and manage a team of high-performing mechanical and opto-mechanical engineers, fostering a culture of innovation and collaborationProvide technical leadership for the design, development, and integration of complex opto-mechanical systems for laser-based optoelectronic equipmentLead the development of mechanical specifications, heat transfer, structural mechanics and dynamics, as well as opto-mechanical hardware design, fabrication techniques and testingEnsure the integration of opto-mechanical systems with mechanical and software componentsDevelop and execute project plans, timelines, and budgets, while ensuring cross-functional alignment. Provide clear direction to ensure targets are met and consistent updates to all relevant stakeholdersManage vendor relationships and procurement of mechanical componentsOversee the creation of detailed technical documentation, including design specifications, test reports and user manualsCollaborate with cross-functional teams, maintaining ongoing communication with technical managers, project leaders, peers and support staffEnsure adherence to quality standards and regulatory requirementsCapable of lifting and moving objects that weigh up to 25 poundsPerforms other duties as assigned or requiredExperience & EducationBachelor’s degree in Physics, Engineering, or a related field required5+ years in opto-mechanical system design and development, preferably in optoelectronics, lasers, optical communications, or optics in computingQualificationsTemperamentally suited to work at a fast-growing, early-stage startup: self-motivated, humble, driven, collaborative, and has a high tolerance for ambiguity and uncertaintyAbility to effectively communicate and collaborate with a diverse team of experimental physicists, hardware and software engineers, and support staffAbility to prioritize and manage multiple projects in a changing work environmentExperience with SolidWorks, PDM, or equivalent design and data management softwareExperience with FEA (meshing, modal analysis, thermal analysis, etc.) and corresponding first order analysisUnderstanding of material science related to adhesives in an optical environmentDFMA, tolerancing, drawings to ASME Y14.5M and ISO 10110 Strong knowledge of first order optics and aberration theory Design of precision mechanisms and kinematic systemsStrong analytical and problem-solving skillsExcellent communication and interpersonal skillsExperience and proficiency to manage projects and teams effectivelyAbility and passion for recruiting the best Mechanical and Opto-Mechanical Engineers from academia and industryAtom Computing provides a wide variety of perks and benefits, including fully paid medical,dental, and vision insurance for our employees and their dependents.
