JOB TITLE: ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL - K-8DEPARTMENT: AdministrationREPORTS TO: PrincipalFLSA STATUS/CLASSIFICATION: Exempt; CertSUPERVISORY DUTIES: Teachers, Clerical Staff, CounselorsAPPROVED ON: 11/14/2024SUMMARY: Provides administrative, organizational and personnel assistance to the school principal bydirecting and recommending policies, procedures and actions pertaining to all activities at assigned school. Helpsstudents and parents resolve academic or nonacademic problems as may interfere with all students getting thegreatest benefit from the school's educational opportunities.ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:Assists the Principal in creating and maintaining an atmosphere that enables staff and students to attain the unique goals and objectives of the Humboldt Unified School District and communities involvedShares with the principal the responsibility for protecting the health and welfare of studentsAssists in administering the extracurricular programs of the schoolPrepares and supervises teachers assigned to teacher duty rostersAssists in the development of the master schedule and registration, scheduling and testing of studentsSupervises student activities at assigned schoolAdministers school policies and regulations as related to student behavior, discipline, attendance, and application of due process in a fair and just manner; follows Board Policy in regard to discipline and maintains records of any disciplinary actions takenWorks with other administrators in follow-up action pertaining to attendance, referrals and disciplinary recommendations or actionsArranges conferences with students, parents, and teachers, when necessary, regarding academic performance, discipline, attendance problems, or other related student issuesAssists in the evaluation of staff performance as assigned by the PrincipalPerforms special assignments as assigned by the PrincipalPrepares pertinent correspondence to the Principal, parents or students, as requiredSupports the Principal with administrative functionsMaintains all other appropriate student recordsCross-trains in the duties of the Principal to cover in his/her absenceKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writingAbility to do perform multiple clerical functions simultaneouslyAbility to do detailed mathematical computationsAbility to maintain confidentialityProduce accurate work and complete assignments with minimal supervisionJOB DESCRIPTIONAbility to apply common sense understanding to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situationsAbility to work cooperatively and courteously with staff, students, parents and community membersKnowledge of applicable Federal and State laws, district procedures and Board policiesAbility to handle confrontation and conflict without an emotional responseQUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:Education & Experience:Current Principal Certificate issued by ADEMasters DegreeExperience as a teacher or counselorAny equivalent combination of training, education and experience that meets minimum requirementsCriminal justice/Fingerprint clearanceComputer Proficiency: Demonstrated general proficiency in computer programs such as Microsoft Excel, Wordand googlePHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by anemployee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
