Operations Technology Data Engineer
Optomi, in partnership with a leading food manufacturing organization, is seeking an Operational Technology Data Engineer to support a large-scale digital transformation initiative focused on modernizing industrial operations and enterprise data capabilities. This individual will play a key role in building the digital backbone of plant operations by supporting OT data historian platforms, developing data pipelines, and enabling the secure movement of operational data from manufacturing environments into enterprise cloud platforms. The ideal candidate will have experience working with industrial control systems, OT data historians, and modern data architectures while serving as a bridge between plant operations and enterprise technology teams.What will the right candidate enjoy?Playing a key role in a company-wide digital transformation initiative modernizing manufacturing operations.Working with cutting-edge OT and IT technologies including AVEVA PI, Snowflake, cloud platforms, and industrial data solutions.Designing and supporting scalable data pipelines that move plant-floor data into enterprise analytics environments.Collaborating with enterprise architects, BI teams, controls engineers, and operational leaders on highly visible initiatives.Experience of the right candidate:Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.4+ years of experience working with OT systems, industrial data environments, manufacturing technology, or data engineering.Hands-on experience administering or supporting data historian platforms such as AVEVA PI, FactoryTalk Historian, Canary, or Ignition.Experience working with PLCs, SCADA systems, sensors, industrial control systems, or manufacturing operations technology.Experience developing or supporting data pipelines using SQL, Python, REST APIs, cloud ingestion tools, or related technologies.Familiarity with industrial communication protocols including OPC UA, EtherNet/IP, or Modbus.Understanding of modern cloud data platforms such as Snowflake, Azure, AWS, or Databricks.Experience working with time-series data, historian systems, and OT-to-cloud integrations.Knowledge of OT cybersecurity concepts, network segmentation, and secure industrial architectures.Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams including operations, engineering, IT, maintenance, and analytics teams.Strong troubleshooting, communication, and problem-solving abilities.Experience supporting data governance, data quality, metadata standards, or enterprise data initiatives is preferred.Exposure to modern IIoT platforms, MQTT, Power BI, or enterprise analytics environments is a plus.Responsibilities of the right candidate:Administer, maintain, troubleshoot, and optimize OT data historian platforms including AVEVA PI and related technologies.Ensure reliable collection, storage, and management of industrial time-series data from PLCs, SCADA systems, sensors, and edge devices.Design, build, and support data pipelines that securely move operational data from manufacturing environments into enterprise cloud platforms.Develop and maintain cloud ingestion workflows using historian replication tools, IIoT technologies, edge gateways, and custom integrations.Monitor historian health, pipeline performance, latency, schema changes, and overall system integrity.Troubleshoot data flow issues and improve ingestion, compression, buffering, and contextualization processes.Partner with enterprise architecture, business intelligence, and analytics teams to develop governed OT datasets.Transform raw plant-floor data into trusted, production-ready assets for reporting, analytics, and machine learning initiatives.Implement scalable data onboarding frameworks to support multi-site deployments and future growth.
