Senior Propellant Chemist (Broomfield)
We are developing novel methods for additively manufactured (3Dprinted) rocket propellants. This role will lead formulation of printable energetic materials, focusing on binder chemistry, rheology, curing, and energetic performance for extrusion or hybrid additive processes. Key Responsibilities Develop printable propellant formulations (AP/HTPB, GAP, or alternative binders) Engineer rheology for extrusion, DIW (Direct Ink Writing), or hybrid AM processes Formulate metalized systems (Al, boron) compatible with printing Optimize viscosity, cure kinetics, and green strength Define safe handling, mixing, and printing protocols for energeticmaterials Conduct small-batch mixing, casting, and printed sample evaluation Perform burn rate characterization, strand burner testing, andmechanical testing Collaborate with mechatronics engineer to co-design material + printer architecture Support scaling from lab-scale to prototype production Requirements:B.S./M.S./PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials, or Energetics 5–12+ years experience in solid rocket propellants or energetic materials Deep expertise in binder systems (HTPB, GAP, polybutadienes, or novel polymers) Experience with rheology, cure chemistry, and polymer formulation Hands-on experience with mixing, casting, and energetic lab work Preferred:Experience with additive manufacturing of viscous materials (inks, slurries, pastes) Experience with nano/micro metal particles (Al, boron) Familiarity with printable energetic composites or DIW processes Background in energetic safety (ATF, OSHA, DoD standards)
