Accountant - Job SummaryThe Staff Accountant is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, performing account reconciliations, and ensuring compliance with applicable state and local tax regulations. This role supports the month-end close process, prepares and files sales and use tax returns, manages personal property tax filings, and assists with general accounting functions to ensure financial accuracy and integrity.Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesGeneral AccountingPrepare and complete monthly balance sheet account reconciliationsInvestigate and resolve account variances in a timely mannerMaintain organized documentation to support all reconciliationsAssist with month-end and year-end close processesPrepare journal entries with proper supporting documentationAssist in preparing audit schedules for external auditorsResearch tax regulations and respond to internal accounting/tax inquiriesMaintain compliance calendars to ensure deadlines are met and penalties are avoidedSales & Use TaxPrepare, review, and file monthly, quarterly, and annual sales & use tax returnsMonitor changes in state and local tax regulations to ensure complianceReconcile sales tax accounts and resolve issues with tax agenciesMaintain exemption certificates and audit-ready documentationPersonal Property TaxCollect and maintain asset data for personal property tax filingsPrepare and submit annual personal property tax returnsReconcile tax assessments and payments to the general ledgerQualificationsBachelor's degree in Accounting required3-4 years of accounting and tax experienceStrong understanding of GAAP and general ledger accountingExperience with sales & use tax complianceProficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting/ERP systemsExperience with construction accounting ERP systems preferredStrong analytical skills and attention to detailAbility to manage multiple deadlines and work independentlyAscendo is a certified minority owned staffing firm, and we welcome and celebrate diversity.
