This Is What You Need To KnowLocation: Knoxville TN (Other office locations may be available)Salary: Highly Competitive Plus BenefitsContract: Permanent, full timeReporting to: Engineering Resource ManagerYour Role In The MissionThe primary function of this position is to provide mechanical engineering design lead for conceptual, preliminary and final design of plasma diagnostics for our stellarator fusion power plants. The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer – Diagnostics and Port Space Integration will work focusing on a variety of projects related to plasma diagnostics and port space integration within our vacuum and cryostat vessel.ResponsibilitiesLead and initiate the mechanical engineering efforts for plasma diagnostics, particularly related to port space integration and in-vessel components from conceptual design review through commissioningLead the mechanical engineering interface efforts between ports, diagnostic teams and other subsystemsIdentify important mechanical engineering challenges to be solved by diagnostic team membersCollaborate with engineers, scientists, designers, and other stakeholders to understand project requirements and objectives.Work with the plasma diagnostic technical lead to plan out cost, schedule and resources for mechanical engineering activities for plasma diagnosticsWhat You’ll NeedBachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline, Master’s degree is preferred.10+ years of relevant experience.Demonstrated leadership, project management, communication, and problem-solving skills, with a proven ability to manage complex technical challenges and teams.Proficiency in mechanical design principles in structural, thermal, and fluid mechanics, failure modes, and lifecycle reliabilityProficiency in cost, schedule, and resource planning.Skilled in balancing trade-offs across performance, manufacturability, and regulation.Experience with design of first of a kind components.Experience working with sensors or diagnosticsFamiliarity with Computer Aided Design and Finite Element Analysis softwareExperience with design of fusion or fission energy systems and equipment is desirableExperience with UHV, cryogenics, steady-state cooling is desirableWe OfferIn addition to a basic salary and yearly bonus, you will also get…A hybrid work policyStock options Relocation allowance Insurance plans Retirement options And many more great voluntary benefits Type One Energy applies proven advanced manufacturing methods, modern computational physics and high-field superconducting magnets to develop its optimized stellarator fusion energy system.
