We are a boutique civil litigation defense firm seeking a litigation paralegal who wants to be actively involved in case strategy, contribute at a high level, and continue growing in a collaborative, professional environment.This role is ideal for a motivated paralegal who values ownership of their work, meaningful involvement in litigation, and working closely with attorneys without the rigidity or bureaucracy of a larger firm.The RoleAs a Litigation Paralegal, you will play a central role in supporting civil defense matters from inception through resolution, working directly with attorneys and contributing to the overall litigation strategy.You will:Draft pleadings, discovery, motions, and correspondenceManage document review and assist with e-discovery processesConduct legal and factual research to support case developmentMaintain and organize case files, ensuring accuracy and accessibilityTrack deadlines and ensure compliance with court rules and scheduling ordersCoordinate with clients, experts, and third-party vendorsAssist in preparing for depositions, mediations, arbitrations, and trialsThis is a hands-on litigation role—paralegals are actively engaged in the work and are a critical part of case execution.Expectations & WorkflowAnnual billable expectation: 1,600 hoursBillable expectations are designed to support high-quality work and a sustainable paceWork closely with attorneys on active litigation matters in a team-oriented environmentCaseloads and assignments are structured to promote efficiency, organization, and strong work productParalegals are trusted with substantive responsibilities—not limited to administrative tasksSuccess is measured by attention to detail, reliability, and contribution to case outcomes—not volume aloneTeam Environment & Firm CultureAt Burrows & Stutsman, collaboration extends across all roles within the firm.Attorneys and staff work side-by-side in a communicative, supportive environmentParalegals are involved in the meaningful aspects of the case, including trial preparationThe firm emphasizes professionalism, preparation, and consistency in all work productTeam members are encouraged to build long-term litigation skills and take ownership of their roleOur goal is to build a cohesive team that produces excellent work and supports long‑term growth.QualificationsPrior experience as a litigation paralegal in civil litigationStrong skills in legal document drafting, organization, and file managementFamiliarity with litigation procedures in California state and/or federal courtsExperience with document review and e-discovery tools preferredExcellent attention to detail and strong organizational skillsAbility to manage deadlines and work collaboratively with attorneys and staffParalegal certificate requiredExperience in personal injury or civil defense matters is a plusSpanish language proficiency is a plusCompensation & BenefitsBase salary: $80,000+, commensurate with experienceDiscretionary annual bonusHealth, dental, and vision insurance401(k) with annual 3% firm contributionUnlimited vacation policyHybrid work scheduleIf you are a litigation paralegal looking for a role where your work is valued, your contributions matter, and your professional growth is supported, we encourage you to apply.
