Job Title:Teaching AssistantContract Length:181 daysFLSA Status:Non-ExemptJob SummaryThe position is responsible for assisting the classroom teacher by performing tasks assigned and directed by the teacher. The teacher's instructions must not infringe upon the responsibilities reserved for the certified teacher. It is vital that both the teacher and the Teaching Assistant fully understand the limitations and purpose of the assistant.)Essential DutiesTo perform this job successfully, an individual must satisfactorily perform each essential duty. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities, who are otherwise qualified, to perform the duties herein described.Assists with organizing and preparing the classroom and instructional materials; gathers resources and related supplies.Instruct various subject areas to small groups of students under the teacher's supervision, working with individual students who require additional help with assignments.Provides guidance and encourages the development of literacy and social skills.Monitors students and provides classroom coverage when the teacher is away.Performs administrative duties such as making copies, recording attendance, grading papers, and other related tasks.Provides supervision during recreation, special events, field trips, and other activities as needed.Performs other duties as assigned.Minimum QualificationsParaPro Certification.Previous experience working with students preferred.Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesDemonstrates basic reading, writing, and computation skills.Have good physical and emotional health.Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, parents, and the public.Working Conditions and Physical RequirementsMust have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to dial a telephone and enter data into a computer; see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear and understand speech at normal classroom levels, outdoors, and on the telephone; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in regular classrooms, outdoors, and on thephonee; physical agility to lift to 25 pounds; and to bend, stoop, sit on the floor, climb stairs, walk, and reach overhead.Work EnvironmentThe work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.Duties are usually performed in a school/classroom environment.
