Accounting Assistant
Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and knowledgeable Assistant Accountant to support our finance team. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in accounting principles, including GAAP, double entry bookkeeping, and financial statement preparation. This role involves assisting with various accounting functions such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliation, and financial analysis. Experience with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, Xero, or PeopleSoft is highly desirable. The Assistant Accountant will play a key role in maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and supporting financial reporting processes. Responsibilities
Assist in the preparation of financial statements and reports in accordance with GAAP and other regulatory standards
Perform account reconciliations including bank reconciliations and general ledger reconciliation
Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable processes efficiently and accurately
Record journal entries and maintain detailed documentation of financial transactions
Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis activities to aid management decision-making
Conduct cash flow analysis and assist with budget variance analysis
Ensure compliance with SOX, LIHTC, securities law, governmental accounting standards, and other relevant regulations
Maintain accurate records using accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, Xero, or PeopleSoft
Assist with internal audits and support external audit processes as needed
Mentor junior team members and contribute to a collaborative team environment
Support regulatory reporting requirements and ensure timely submission of reports
Experience
Proven experience in corporate accounting or public accounting roles with a focus on financial reporting and compliance
Strong understanding of GAAP, accrual accounting, double entry bookkeeping, and financial concepts
Hands-on experience with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, Xero, or PeopleSoft; familiarity with Microsoft Excel for data analysis is essential
Knowledge of SOX compliance, LIHTC programs, non-profit accounting practices, governmental accounting standards, and securities law is preferred
Experience in financial statement preparation, account reconciliation, bank reconciliation, and journal entries is required
Demonstrated ability to interpret financial reports and perform financial analysis including cash flow analysis and budgeting
Prior mentoring or team leadership experience is a plus but not mandatory
This role requires a motivated individual with strong technical accounting skills combined with excellent analytical abilities. Candidates should possess a solid understanding of financial management principles and demonstrate high attention to detail to ensure accuracy in all tasks undertaken.
Pay: $14.00 - $15.00 per hour
