Neurosurgery Physician AssistantPosition SummaryThe Neurosurgery Physician Assistant (PA) provides advanced clinical care to patients with neurosurgical conditions across inpatient, outpatient, and operative settings. Working collaboratively with neurosurgeons and the multidisciplinary care team, the PA evaluates patients, assists in surgical procedures, manages perioperative care, and supports continuity of care throughout the treatment course.Key ResponsibilitiesPerform comprehensive patient evaluations, including history and physical examinationsAssist in neurosurgical procedures in the operating room, including first assist duties as appropriateManage preoperative and postoperative care for neurosurgical patientsConduct daily inpatient rounds and coordinate care plansOrder, interpret, and document diagnostic studies and laboratory resultsDevelop and implement treatment plans under physician supervisionPerform bedside procedures within scope of practiceProvide patient and family education regarding diagnoses, procedures, and recovery plansParticipate in outpatient clinics, follow-up visits, and post-discharge care coordinationDocument clinical encounters accurately and timely in the electronic medical recordCollaborate with nursing, therapy, case management, and other support servicesParticipate in quality improvement, safety initiatives, and continuing education activitiesClinical Areas May IncludeCranial and spinal surgeryTrauma and emergency neurosurgeryNeuro-oncologyDegenerative spine disordersCerebrovascular conditionsQualificationsGraduate of an accredited Physician Assistant programCurrent Physician Assistant certificationActive or eligible state licensure as a Physician AssistantBLS and ACLS certification (or ability to obtain)Prior experience in neurosurgery, surgery, or critical care preferred but not requiredKnowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesStrong clinical assessment and decision-making skillsAbility to function effectively in high-acuity and fast-paced environmentsExcellent communication and interpersonal skillsStrong organizational and documentation abilitiesCommitment to patient-centered, evidence-based careWork EnvironmentCombination of inpatient, outpatient, and operating room settingsMay include on-call responsibilities, nights, weekends, or holidaysRequires prolonged standing, lifting, and manual dexterity in surgical settings
