This person works with Sr Director of Underwriting to implement strategic goals and performance standards, while overseeing department leaders and providing the necessary support to empower and educate leaders in effective team management.Position Summary:The Director of Underwriter, Employee Benefits will work within the innovative Employee Benefits department. The core responsibilities will be to support client teams with financial modeling, cost management options, data analytics, actuarial models, and overall health & welfare program solutions.Primary Responsibilities:Primary responsibility for monthly client deliverablesCreate and manage dashboard exhibitsEstablish ongoing communication with carriers to monitor claim trendsRemain current with products availableBuild employer/employee contribution strategies and projection-based modeling (examples: M&A resources, contribution, and migration modeling)Work closely with actuarial partners on project-based workAssist on additional team projects as neededProvide data manipulation and formattingSupport medical utilization project-based workProvides leadership and professional development of Underwriting Leaders, Underwriting Support Leaders, and Associate Directors of Underwriting.Provides guidance for escalated issues.Monitors production reports and address any performance issues with Underwriting Leaders and Underwriting Support LeadersMonitors compliance related issues and adds any concerns with Underwriting Leaders and Underwriting Support Leaders.Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:Knowledge of funding mechanisms: fully insured and self-insuredOrganizational skills and time managementMathematic abilityEffective communications skills both written and verbal for interface with Clients and co-workersAbility to work in a team environmentDemonstrates the organization's core values, exuding behavior that is aligned with the firm's cultureProficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)Ability to learn any other appropriate program or software system used by the firm as necessaryEducation & Experience:Education: Bachelor's degree required; Bachelor's degree preferredExperience (years and type of experience): 5 years' experience with a carrier required; 5-7 years' experience with a medical carrier preferredASA Designation preferredThe starting salary is $185,000-$210,000 annually. Salary is negotiable upon time of hire.
