STEM Camp Intern - Robotics, AI, and Coding Camp Instructor (Summer 2026)About Students 2 Science:Students 2 Science's mission is to inspire and empower all students through hands-on learning experiences, encouraging them to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) to strengthen the future workforce. Through Students 2 Science's STEM programs, students will build a greater understanding of STEM, enhance technical skills, and be provided with information and guidance on STEM education and career pathways. About the Program:The Students 2 Science Middle School STEM Summer Program is an immersive, week-long camp experience offered over six consecutive sessions during Summer 2026. Designed for students in grades 6 - 8, this program combines hands-on robotics, coding, artificial intelligence, drone technology, and game design to spark creativity, curiosity, and innovation. Position Overview:We are seeking motivated and enthusiastic college interns to join our Instruction Team. Interns will assist in teaching, mentoring, and leading small groups of middle school students through daily STEM activities. Ideal candidates are undergraduate students majoring in Engineering, Computer Science, Education, or related STEM fields who enjoy working with young learners and have a passion for making science and technology exciting and accessible. This is an in-person, seasonal position at our Apollo Technology Center in Whippany, NJ. Internship duration: June 22 to August 14, 2026.Interns will be compensated at the rate of $20.00 per hour. You will work between the hours of 8:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. (Monday to Friday); Camp Intern hours will not exceed a maximum of 25-30 hours per week.Responsibilities: Assist in the setup, instruction, and supervision of daily hands-on STEM activities. Support the Lead Instructors in teaching robotics and coding concepts, including: Days 1-2: Building and coding robots (Arduino-based systems, LEDs, motors, and sensors including IR, ultrasonic and accelerometers). Day 3: Exploring AI and Neural Networks using Google Teachable Machine and TensorFlow for sound, image, and posture recognition. Day 4: Supporting drone activities, including flying mechanics, safety, and applied challenges such as aerial surveying and filming. Day 5: Guiding camp participants in game coding projects using mBlock or Roblox Studio. Engage participants through demonstrations, questions, and teamwork exercises that promote creativity and problem solving. Help participants troubleshoot coding and hardware challenges during projects. Ensure safe and organized use of all tools, robots, and drones. Contribute to daily setup, cleanup, and materials management. Participate in pre-camp orientation and training sessions. Encourage a positive, inclusive, and fun learning environment. Participate in required work-readiness training and career/professional development programs, workshops, and related activities throughout the internship. Minimum Qualifications: Current college student or recent graduate majoring in Computer Science, Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, STEM Education, or related field. Experience with Arduino IDE, Python, TensorFlow, or block-based coding platforms (mBlock, Scratch, etc.) preferred. Familiarity with basic electronics, robotics kits (e.g., Arduino, LEGO, or VEX), and/or drone operation is a plus. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Prior experience working with or mentoring students (e.g., tutor, camp counselor, teaching assistant) is desirable. Must be dependable, organized, and comfortable in a hands-on, fast-paced learning setting. Must have reliable transportation to and from the worksite. Must be a New Jersey resident.
