Cube Root seeks an experienced Project Manager for Sign and Structure Construction to join our team supporting District Department of Transportation (DDOT). The signs include the regulatory, informational, warning, and guide signs. One of the two contracts focuses on the installation and maintenance of signs within the District of Columbia’s local, collector, and arterial roadways. The second contract focuses on the installation and maintenance of the large guide signs, which include, but are not limited to, ground mounted and overhead large guide sign panels and support. The roadway signs need maintenance due to many reasons, including normal deterioration over time, accidents, graffiti, weather conditions, geographical changes, or the need to update names. Construction management services are needed to manage the Construction Contractors performing construction services, that include processing of service requests, work orders, performing QA/QC, reviewing sign proofs and designs, reviewing and inspecting traffic control plan (TCP), inspect and accept the sign panel installation on the structures and support upon completion, perform site surveys and identify the signs needing replacement, and make recommendations for sign placements. The signs are located throughout the city and on the DC freeways and expressways. The signs will consist of most of the signs in the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD). About the Role The Project Manager shall perform its services consistently with the skill and care ordinarily provided by consultants in consultant's profession practicing in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area on projects of a similar type, cost, and size. This role shall perform its services as expeditiously as is consistent with such skill and care and the orderly progress of the Project. The position should provide construction management and inspection services for citywide roadway signs, which include traffic and parking signs and large guide signs. The Project Manager will ensure compliance with the current edition of the MUTCD, DDOT Standards and Specifications, and retro reflectivity as required by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). Key Responsibilities Provide comprehensive construction management services, including daily field inspections of roadway sign locations throughout the District of Columbia. Ensure all roadway sign types—including regulatory, warning, guide, and informational signs—are inspected and verified for compliance with District of Columbia rules and regulations, MUTCD standards, and AASHTO specifications. Oversee preparation of inspection reports and propose recommendations based on field findings. Assist in preparing work orders for construction contractors, ensuring accurate scope definition, compliance requirements, and clarity of deliverables. Verify that construction contractors obtain all required permits and certifications prior to beginning work. Prepare, maintain, secure, and manage all project records and documentation associated with inspections, work orders, service requests, and field activities. Verify that construction contractors obtain all required permits and certifications prior to beginning work. Oversee inspection services for large guide signs, including approval of Traffic Control Plans (TCP) and Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) plans. Review and approval of sign proofs, including checks of sign structure suitability—particularly when sign size or weight differs from the original. Manage the installation, removal, and replacement of signs on existing or new structures conform to DDOT, MUTCD, and AASHTO standards. Confirm that all sign installations and locations match contract documents. Manage/document construction activities with Cityworks. Equip field personnel with technology necessary to access, display, and update work order information in real time. Qualifications Posses a District of Columbia Professional Engineers License Bachelor’s degree in engineering or construction management Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in: o Construction management and inspection Traffic Control Plans (TCP)/ Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) review oSign Structure and sign proof review Knowledge of MUTCD, DDOT Standards and Specifications, and AASHTO guidelines. Familiarity with Cityworks/Signworks systems for work order and service request management. Ability to work effectively with clients and stakeholders. Experience serving as an Owner's Representative.
