Assistant Living Manager

Department: Health ServicesReport to: Health Care AdministratorStatus: Full-Time, ExemptAbout the RoleAs our Assisted Living (AL) Manager, you will lead the clinical care and daily operations of The Terrace, Knollwood's assisted living community, ensuring every resident receives person-centered care within a compliant, well-run environment. This position reports to the Health Care Administrator and is a resident-facing, team-leadership role that directly shapes the quality of life for residents and families navigating the continuum of care.What You Will Do• Lead daily operations of The Terrace in compliance with DC Department of Health standards, CMS requirements, and Knollwood policy• Oversee clinical intake, Level of Care assessments, and service plan development for all incoming residents• Supervise, coach, and develop a multidisciplinary team of nursing staff, resident assistants, and administrative personnel• Partner with the Director of Nursing on care plan development, medication protocols, and clinical health monitoring• Engage families as active care partners through regular communication, care conferences, and proactive updates on resident status changes• Coordinate cognitive screening and memory care programming for residents with dementia or cognitive impairment• Monitor census, occupancy trends, and move-in pipeline; partner with sales and marketing to achieve occupancy goals• Lead quality improvement initiatives including root cause analysis, corrective action plans, and resident satisfaction surveys• Maintain and test emergency preparedness plans and infection control protocols• Manage budget oversight and report performance metrics to the Health Care AdministratorWhat We Are Looking ForRequired• Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Social Work, Gerontology, Public Health, or related field• Minimum 2 years of progressive leadership experience in assisted living, long-term care, or senior living operations• Working knowledge of DC assisted living licensing requirements and CMS standards• Demonstrated ability to supervise a multidisciplinary team in a healthcare or residential care setting• Proficiency in electronic health records, telehealth platforms, and Microsoft Office SuitePreferred• Master's degree in Social Work (MSW), Healthcare Administration (MHA), or Gerontology• Certified Assisted Living Administrator (CALA) credential preferred; candidates without CALA will be required to obtain certification within six (6) months of hire as a condition of continued employment• Nursing Home Administrator (NHA) license in good standing; NHA candidates are encouraged to apply and will be supported in satisfying any DC-specific assisted living requirements• Prior experience in a CCRC or Life Plan Community• Experience with admissions, census management, or senior living sales support• Experience working in a unionized environment• Demonstrated practice in person-centered care and dementia-capable care modelsWho Thrives HereOur best leaders are present, not just managing from a distance.
