**SIGN ON BONUS**Multiple Full-Time and Part-Time positions availableFull-time - 37.5 hours per week, 52 weeks per year (5 FT)Part-time - 15-25 hours per week, 52 weeks per year (2 PT)Grade 14Pay Rate: $19.18 - $24.94 per hour (hourly, non-exempt)The starting rate within this range will be determined based on qualifications, experience, and internal equity.-Must meet USDOT drug testing requirements-JOB SUMMARY:The Transit Operator independently performs transportation services by operating agency buses throughout Oswego County and surrounding areas. This position is responsible for developing a daily driving route based on a preliminary pick-up schedule and managing frequent routing and schedule adjustments throughout the day.The Transit Operator primarily transports consumers with a variety of physical, medical, and psychological needs to medical and behavioral health appointments. On occasion, the driver also transports members of the general public through a shared-ride system.JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Safely transports passengers in all road, traffic, and weather conditionsDevelops a new route daily based on demand service schedules and client needsAdjusts routes and schedules throughout the workday in coordination with dispatchLoads and secures passengers, including those using wheelchairs and mobility devicesDetermines safe and appropriate bus placement for all pick-ups and drop-offsInteracts professionally with healthcare staff at medical and behavioral health facilitiesAssists consumers with complex physical and psychological needsMonitors consumer conditions and responds appropriately to changes or emergenciesEnsures safe operation of the bus and follows emergency and safety proceduresPerforms required pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and documentationReports maintenance or safety issues promptlyCollects fares, tickets, tokens, or passes as applicableUses proper radio procedures and "10 codes" professionallyAdministers First Aid and follows universal precautions for bloodborne pathogensAssists passengers with groceries, packages, and personal belongingsProvides guidance to a bus aide when assignedAdheres to all agency policies, schedules, and proceduresJOB REQUIREMENTS:Demonstrates tact, courtesy, and professionalism with staff and the publicAbility to remain calm and effective in chaotic or stressful situationsMeets all requirements of the Driving Safety Policy and DMV Article 19-AThorough knowledge of roadways in Oswego and adjacent countiesAbility to operate all vehicles in the transportation fleet, including wheelchair liftsMaintains professional grooming, uniform appearance, and demeanorMust attain and maintain a CDL Class B with air brake and passenger endorsementMeets all physical and mental health standards under 19-A regulationsAbility to frequently push/pull wheelchairs and assist passengers weighing 150+ lbsPhysical capability to assist passengers up/down stairs and in/out of vehiclesSound judgment to assess situations and seek assistance when appropriateFlexibility to work shifts of 10+ hours with variable start and end timesAbility to read maps, use radio procedures, and apply "10 codes"Basic reading, writing, and arithmetic skillsMaintains CPR certification and attends required trainingCompletes annual Bloodborne Pathogen, Diversity, Emergency Preparedness trainingCompletes defensive driving training every three yearsSuccessfully meets Drug & Alcohol testing and fingerprinting requirementsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:High School Diploma or equivalent; and ability to obtain a CDL, Class B, license with air brake and passenger endorsement; andA minimum of one year's experience transporting passengers; orAny equivalent combination of education, experience and training.Must meet USDOT drug testing requirementsOswego County Opportunities, Inc. provides equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants for employment and prohibits discrimination and harassment of any type without regard to race, creed, color, religion, age, sex, national origin, disability status, genetics, protected veteran status, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state or local laws.
