Operations Support Dispatcher-Charleston Terminal
Position Summary:The Operations Support Dispatcher supports daily port operations through flexible dispatch coverage, operational coordination, and overflow support during peak periods, lunches, PTO coverage, afternoons, and Saturdays. This role helps maintain service levels, communication flow, and efficient container movement in a fast-paced drayage environment.Strong communication and collaboration are essential, as dispatch works closely with the customer service team to ensure accurate updates, proactive problem-solving, and consistent service for customers. Success in this role requires initiative, adaptability, and the ability to problem-solve and pivot quickly in the ever-changing world of drayage operations.Schedule:Tuesday – Friday: 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM ETSaturday hours based on operational demand (typically 6:00 AM – 1:00 PM ET)1-hour lunch break during weekday shiftsSchedule flexibility may occasionally be required based on operational needs.Essential Responsibilities:Dispatch and Operational SupportAssist with daily dispatch operations and load coordinationSupport empty container management and appointment schedulingMonitor operational queues and pending items throughout the dayCommunicate with drivers, terminals, customer service, and dispatch staff regarding operational updatesMaintain timely and accurate updates within dispatch systemsCoverage and Team SupportProvide lunch, afternoon, PTO, and Saturday dispatch coverageSupport overflow dispatch activity during high-volume periodsAssist with unresolved operational issues and follow-up itemsEscalate urgent operational concerns appropriatelyAdapt to changing operational priorities throughout the dayAdministrative ResponsibilitiesMaintain accurate operational records and data entryWork collaboratively with the dispatch and customer service teams to ensure service consistencyQualifications:Dispatch, logistics, transportation, or operations experience preferredDrayage asset dispatch experience strongly preferredCharleston Port experience is a plusFamiliarity with Google Workspace (Sheets, Docs, Gmail) preferredAbility to multitask in a fast-paced environmentStrong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skillsHigh attention to detail, initiative, and sense of urgencyAbility to pivot quickly and adapt to changing operational demandsReliable follow-through and time managementAbility to work independently while supporting team operationsDedicated home workspace with reliable internet connectivity preferred
