With that in mind, we encourage all qualified applicants to apply.Job DescriptionThe Church History Library of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints digitizes, describes, and provides online access to as many of its records as possible. We identify and describe people, places, and events in millions of records from published materials and archival collections. Our metadata is derived from paper and digitized collections and indexes. We make these records available via the Church History Catalog, Church History Biographical Database, FamilySearch, and other platforms.We are looking for a candidate with the education, experience, and passion to help create these catalog, index, and database records, and to assist employees and volunteers by performing quality assurance reviews and providing feedback. Our team’s mission is to improve the discoverability and usability of archival records in the Church History Catalog, Church History Biographical Database, and other research tools offered by the Church History Library.This is a paid, 40-hour per week, hourly position. ResponsibilitiesCarry out assigned projects to enhance the Church History Biographical Database, archival collections, indexes, and other electronic documentsWork with data in spreadsheets, databases, and PowerAppsTrain and support volunteers in their use of data enhancement and indexing toolsAssign and review work of volunteersIdentify and resolve problems encountered in quality assurance and indexingEngage in historical research when necessary to provide context for metadata recordsImprove personal professional skills relating to libraries, archives, databases, and digital asset managementIncrease personal knowledge of Church history QualificationsPaid Interns are qualified while enrolled in an educational institution and for one year following graduationPaid Interns must sign a Paid Internship Engagement LetterCollege coursework and interest in archival studies, library science, information science, and/or historical researchProven attention to detail and organizational skillsExperience with Microsoft Office products, particularly Word and ExcelExcellent teaching and training skillsExcellent writing and editing skillsAbility to read cursive handwritingLeadership experienceInterest in, and basic knowledge of, Church historyInterest in emerging technologies – including Microsoft Power Platform tools and AI (low-code / no code experience required)Ability to quickly learn new concepts and processes, and effectively prioritize tasksRespect for confidentiality of archival records and their contentsGood communication and interpersonal skills and an ability to thrive in a team environmentCreativity, problem-solving, and project management skills About UsChurch employees find joy and satisfaction in using their unique talents and abilities to further the Lord’s work.
