District Attendance Officer

Primary Purpose:Serve as the district attendance officer to enforce compulsory school attendance laws and support campuses in improving student attendance. Collaborate with campus administrators, families, and community agencies to implement truancy prevention measures, address barriers to attendance, and ensure compliance with state law and district policy.Qualifications:Education/Certification:High school diploma or GED (required)Bachelor's degree (preferred)Valid Texas driver's licenseSpecial Knowledge/Skills:Knowledge of Texas compulsory attendance laws and truancy requirementsAbility to interpret Texas Education Code and district policyStrong communication, organization, and conflict resolution skillsAbility to work with diverse student and family populationsAbility to maintain accurate records and documentationBilingual in Spanish (preferred)Experience:Three years professional experience working with students, families, or in compliance, social services, in an educational or law enforcement setting (preferred)Major Responsibilities and Duties:Serve as the district's designated attendance officer who investigates cases of excessive and unexcused absences referred by campusesEnforce compulsory attendance laws by applying truancy prevention measures and monitoring complianceMaintain investigative records and documentation of attendance violations and actions takenFile complaints and refer cases to truancy court when required after interventions have been implementedMonitor, track, and assist with the implementation of attendance incentives at each campus including attendance trends, interpretation of attendance laws and policiesInitiate truancy prevention when a student has met district criteria for interventionCollaborate with campuses to implement interventions such as behavior improvement plans, counseling or mentoring services, and/or community-based supportsEnsure that court referrals occur only after documented prevention efforts have failedCoordination with Campuses and District Staff including campus administrators, attendance clerks/registrars, counselors, Special Education and 504 teamsServe as liaison between the district, families, and community agenciesConduct home visits and parent conferences to address attendance concernsCommunicate legal requirements and expectations regarding student attendanceConnect families to support services to remove barriers (transportation, health, housing, etc.)Prepare documentation and represent the district in truancy court proceedingsEnsure all legal filings meet TEA and court requirements, including documentation of interventionsTrack and analyze attendance data to identify trends and at-risk studentsMaintain accurate records for compliance and audit purposesProvide reports to district leadership regarding attendance patterns and interventions on six-weeks intervalsWorking ConditionsFrequent travel across district campuses and student homesPossible exposure to challenging environments during home visitsFlexible hours may be required to meet with familiesSupervisory ResponsibilitiesNone (may provide guidance to campus staff regarding attendance procedures)EvaluationPerformance evaluated in accordance with district policy and administrative procedures.Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripheralsPosture: Prolonged sitting; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twistingMotion: Repetitive hand motions including frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reachingLifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds)Environment: May work prolonged or irregular hours; frequent district wide travel; occasional statewide travel and out-of-state travel
