Perform all duties of a journeyman linemanReporting RelationshipsUnder the direct supervision of the Line Crew ChiefExternal ContactsMember/PublicContractors/Other UtilitiesExamples of DutiesResponsibilities performed regularlyResponsible for the construction and maintenance on de-energized and energized overhead distribution, underground distribution transmission, and substation facilities.Responsible to know the locations of lines, voltages' sources of power, direction of feeds, locations of fuses, breakers, and regulators in order to have current knowledge of the transmission and distribution system in the service area to which assigned.Responsible for the maintenance and proper use all vehicles, equipment and tools which are assigned.Responsible for the care of material from and the return of material to the warehouse to include all unused and retired materials.Responsible to submit reports of accountability to the supervisor regarding jobs performed and all materials issued.Responsible to prepare RUS Staking Sheets and Work Orders as required by the Line Crew ChiefWill complete all work in a prompt, safe, economical, workman like manner.Responsible for safety on each job, knowledge of state and federal laws and safe work practices.Responsible for conducting on-the-job training that will afford members of his crew to increase their knowledge, work skill and value. Duties performed regularly Performs all duties of Journeyman Lineman.Practices good housekeeping on his truck and avoids waste and damage to material.Prepares accurate, concise, neat, and legible reports and maintenance logs, Line inspection sheets and will make prompt verbal reports when unusual or serious situations occur.Attends classes and training programs as required.Accepts call out duty for emergency calls after regular working hours.Will take turn in the on-call rotation.Will work with the substation, metering, and engineering personnel as required by the Line Crew Chief.Perform other duties as assigned.Standard Workplace Expectations:Contribute to a successful work group by listening to and taking time to understand suggestions and concerns of co-workers. Typical QualificationsMust have completed a Journeyman Lineman Apprenticeship.High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience is required.A thorough knowledge of all line materials, assemblies, equipment, and apparatus, as well as standard RUS Specifications is required.Must possess or be able to obtain a valid Class "A" Washington Commercial Driver's License. Driving record must be acceptable and insurable by PUD's insurance carrier. An annual consent for release of one's driving record is also required.A thorough knowledge of Hot Line preventive maintenance work is required.Current First Aid/CPR Certification or the ability to obtain within 6 months of hireA willingness and ability to work with other co-op employees and serve on various committees, if appointed to such.A thorough knowledge and understanding of all applicable safety rules, regulations and practices is required.Good physical condition is required.Washington State Traffic Flagger Certification or the ability to obtain within 6 months of hireOther combinations of education and/or experience demonstrating the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to do the work will also be considered.Supplemental InformationADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTSMust successfully complete a standard criminal background check. A standard four tens work schedule is expected to be maintained and the incumbent may be required to work more than 40 hours per week. Responds to after-hours phone calls or callouts, including day, night, and weekend.WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDSThe work environment conditions described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this position. This position works primarily in the field and is exposed to all types of weather conditions including temperature extremes and rainy environments. Outdoor setting involves all types of property and site conditions, including outside weather/driving conditions. Requires visual ability to read both from a computer screen and paper copies. Manual dexterity required for data entry and use of hand tools. Hand tools require adequate grip strength.RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTThis position requires the employee to reside at their primary residence within fifty-five (55) minutes legal driving time of their assigned headquarters located west of the Hood Canal Bridge. The residency requirement must be met within 6 months of the hire date.Jefferson County PUD provides a robust benefit package to all full-time employees. Employees pay 5% of the monthly premium, regardless of the number of dependents covered.Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA VEBA): HRA VEBA plan is a health reimbursement arrangement (HRA) for employees to use for qualified health care expenses of the employee and eligible dependents while employed and upon separation of employment. Employees contribute, through payroll deduction, tax-free contributions of $25.00 per month. The PUD contributes $75 per month.Retirement: The District is a member of PERS and participation is mandatory for employees in eligible positions. Both the employee and the employer make contributions to the PERS system. Employee contributions are made on a tax-deferred basis. New employees may choose between PERS Plan 2 and PERS Plan 3.The PUD participates in the Washington State Deferred Compensation Program (457 plan). DCP allows employees to defer a portion of their paycheck for investment for retirement similar to a 401(k). The PUD matches employee deferrals at 50 cents per dollar, up to a total match of 4.5% from the PUD.Paid Time Off: The PUD utilizes a PTO program. New employees are offered 20 days of PTO each year. PTO accrues at 6.15 hours per biweekly pay period. Accruals increase with longevity of service after 3 years.Holidays: The PUD recognizes 11 holidays and provides two floating holidays each year. The second floating holiday is available for use after six months of employment. Floating holidays must be taken during the calendar year in which the floating holiday is earned.
