Train Driver
All Aboard! If you've always wanted to drive a real train, and you love kids, the outdoors, and science, the Museum of Life and Science in Durham invites you to apply to be a Part-Time Train Driver. The ideal candidate is enthusiastic and customer focused, with a desire to support the Museum's mission by providing a safe and engaging ride according to the highest standards of safety while providing excellent customer services to riders and other guests.Responsibilities:Providing a safe and entertaining train ride to all visitorsDriving the train, ticket taking, loading / unloading guests, answering questions and delivering a scripted safety speech before the rideEnsuring the safety of riders through careful train operationBeing knowledgeable of and adhering to all policies and procedures outlined in the train driver's manualMaintaining mechanical operation of the train by performing daily checklist and immediately notifying the appropriate team members of any problemsProviding information to visitors about the train, including how and where to purchase tickets and assist with any problems related to ticketingBetween train rides, assist in other tasks including but not limited to detailing the train, train station, and train plazaActual Pay Rate: $15.00/hourRequirementsAn interest in engaging the public and the ability to work collaboratively with a diverse, multi-generational audienceExcellent communication skillsA pleasant and engaging attitude while being observant and proactiveAbility to respond appropriately to emergencies with provided trainingPrevious experience operating rides is a plusAvailable to work a flexible schedule with weekday, weekend, and evening availabilityAbility to work outside in all weather conditionsValid driver's license and clear driving recordPhysically able to sit for long periods of time and to walk on varied terrain up to 1 mileAbility to lift items up to 30 lbs.Ability to speak another language is desirable.This position is part-time and will range from 8 - 24 hours/week.
