Computational Physics Developer II

Fermilab’s Computational Science and AI Directorate (CSAID) is seeking a Computational Physics Developer II. This position will support computing for a variety of high-energy physics experiments at Fermilab and at the CERN laboratory in Europe. This includes systems used by a range of applications for detector data acquisition, supporting the work of thousands of physicists, students, and engineers from all over the US and the world.RequirementsSoftware for high-rate data acquisition from sophisticated detectors in physics experimentsInfrastructure for artificial intelligence / machine learning initiativesYou WillDesign and implement software for high-rate data acquisition from sophisticated detectors in physics experimentsDevelop platforms for online data processing including integrating novel artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms and hardwareContribute to and lead design discussions, author design notes and specifications, oversee implementationAssist in implementing improved or state-of-the-art computational techniques into lab software to meet the requirements of scientific systems. Contribute optimally within a diverse workforce and uphold Fermilab’s dedication to equity, diversity, and inclusion.QualificationsPhD in Computer Science, Physics, or related field with 2+ years of relevant experience, or a master’s with commensurate specialized experienceProgramming experience in C++/PythonSoftware design and development best practices: version control and continuous integration workflows for complex projectsPrevious experience with High Energy Physics experiment detector Data Acquisition systems a plusExperience with high-performance computing, including Infiniband or other low-latency networking and specialized hardware (GPUs, FPGAs, etc.), a plusExperience with Linux and TCP/IP Networking a plus Physical Activity and Work Conditions HUMAN FACTORS: Mental Concentration, Sitting, Standing, Visually DemandingAble to work at a computer for extended periods of time.
