Biostatistical Analyst I (Remote Capable)
Job Summary
The Biostatistics Core at Geisinger collaborates closely with researchers across the health system, providing comprehensive support throughout all stages of the research process—from proposal development to data analysis and interpretation. Core members offer expertise in refining research questions and hypotheses, designing studies and selecting variables, estimating sample size and statistical power, developing analysis plans, designing data collection methods and randomization schemes, managing data, and conducting biostatistical analyses. The Core consists of 10 members ranging from MS- to PhD-level positions and collaborates with departments such as Community Medicine, Surgery, Cardiology, Otolaryngology, Pediatrics, and Women’s Health. The Core seeks a full‑time master’s‑level biostatistician whose responsibilities include collaborating on study design, writing analysis plans, calculating sample size and power, managing, analyzing, and interpreting study data, contributing to publications, and educating research team members in statistical methods and study design. Experience in logistic regression, time‑to‑event (survival) and observational data analysis, strong communication skills, and ability to handle multiple projects in a multidisciplinary environment are essential. The candidate must have at least 4 years of consulting experience in a healthcare setting, experience managing large datasets, and programming proficiency in SAS or R. This position has the potential to be remote, depending on the candidate.
Job Duties
Independently provide statistical consultations or collaborations with clinical principal investigators.
Develop appropriate study design, determine analysis type, design data collection methods, prepare publication‑quality graphics, and assist in manuscript preparation as needed.
Educate residents and staff on statistical techniques and methods of analysis.
Acquire and install upgrades and use current versions of major statistical packages.
Participate in research committees.
Competencies and Skills
Advanced knowledge in biostatistics, medical/clinical research methods, and epidemiology.
Excellent written and oral communication skills and ability to convey quantitative information to medical personnel and administrators.
Strong interpersonal skills and positive attitude for teamwork.
Critical‑thinking ability to provide statistical support to clinical investigators.
Experienced SAS or R programmer for data manipulation and statistical analysis.
Detail‑oriented with excellent validation and documentation skills.
Effective time‑management and organizational skills for prioritizing concurrent projects.
Sound judgment and resourcefulness.
Education and Experience
Master’s degree in biostatistics or a closely related field, required.
Minimum of 4 years experience performing statistical analysis in a healthcare environment, required.
Experience managing large datasets in a healthcare environment, required.
Advanced proficiency with at least one major statistical software package (preferably SAS or R), required.
