Lead Engineer

Job Title: Lead Engineer Agency: Naval Sea Systems Command, Department of the Navy Location: Dahlgren, Virginia The Major Caliber Anti-Drone Counter-Air Program (MADCAP) is developing an Automated Projectile Initializer to enhance the Navy’s shipboard High Velocity Projectile (HVP) capability. This position provides technical leadership for a cross-disciplinary engineering team responsible for the design, integration, and testing of this critical mechanical/electrical system. This is not an IT or cybersecurity position. The selected candidate will be deeply involved in hardware design, system automation, and shipboard integration efforts. Responsibilities: Lead a multi-disciplinary engineering team across mechanical, electrical, and software domains. Oversee hardware design, prototyping, and component-level testing. Coordinate integration with shipboard systems in accordance with MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-461, and MIL-STD-464. Drive automation of existing mechanical and electrical processes. Collaborate with internal Navy organizations and contractor partners to align design, schedule, and technical deliverables. Provide hands-on technical direction while managing project scope, schedule, and risk. Preferred Background: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, Aerospace, Systems Engineering, or Applied Physics. Experience leading the design and integration of complex electro-mechanical systems. Familiarity with CAD tools (SolidWorks, AutoCAD), embedded software development (C/C++, Java), and hardware testing. Understanding of DoD system development, qualification testing, and shipboard integration standards. Strong leadership, communication, and documentation skills.
