Ophthalmology Section Chief - Alexandria VA Health Care Network

This aligns with the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) Mission Statement to honor America's Veterans by providing exceptional healthcare that improves their health and well-being.Ophthalmology Section Chief Key Responsibilities:• Typical shift M-F, 7:30am-4:00pm OR 8:00am-4:30pm• Travel: up to 25% to Community Based Outpatient Clinics• Provides comprehensive ophthalmologic evaluation/consultations, both IP/OP, diagnosis and treatment for patients, surgical procedures, postoperative care, and follow-up management across all appropriate subspecialties of ophthalmology• Collaborates with other specialties to provide integrated patient management.• Participates in call coverage, surgical rotations, and urgent ophthalmologic evaluations• Oversees daily operations of the ophthalmology clinic, including scheduling, patient• flow, and coordination of services• Develops strategic plans for program growth, resource allocation, and improved access to ophthalmology services• Additional duties as required• May qualify for the Education Debt Reduction Program (up to $200K over a 5-year period)What We Offer:• Competitive Salary: $359,000 - $385,000• Generous Paid Time Off: 50-55 days per year, including 26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays.• Retirement Benefits: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and a federal 401K with up to 5% contributions by VA.• Comprehensive Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care, with many programs carrying into retirement.• Flexibility: No physician employment contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting.• Professional Development: Up to 5 days' paid leave and reimbursement of $1,000 per year.• Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage providedPreferred Experience:• Board Certified in Ophthalmology.• 5+ years' experience; Veterans experience preferred• Must be a U.S. Citizen.
