AI/Machine Learning Engineer Intern (Onsite)
Luna Data Solutions is seeking an AI/Machine Learning Engineer Intern for a long term contract opportunity.This role requires onsite presence 4–5 days per week (Austin, TX 78744)Must reside in the Austin area at time of submittal12 month contractThe AI Apprenticeship Program establishes a sustainable, governed pathway for developing entry-level AI talent in support of AI Strategic Plan. Under supervision, the intern will:Assist in evaluating emerging AI trends, tools, and vendor solutions against defined business use casesSupport proof-of-concept (PoC) efforts to assess feasibility, data readiness, and potential valueContribute to the development of AI/ML models and prototype applications for prioritized use casesHelp design and document data and AI pipelines that integrate with existing systemsCreate reports, analyses, and presentations that clearly communicate findings and outcomesCollaborate with data, engineering, software development, and governance teamsMinimum QualificationsTypically 1–3 years of academic, internship, or entry-level experience in AI, data science, software engineering, or a related fieldPossesses foundational knowledge of common concepts, tools, and practicesWorks under guidance using established processes and standardsDoes not typically exercise independent production decision-makingCoursework toward or completion of a degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related disciplineDemonstrated interest in artificial intelligence, machine learning, and applied analyticsProficiency in PythonFamiliarity with object-oriented programming conceptsExperience with version control (Git)Exposure to data processing, analysis, and basic model developmentUnderstanding of basic software development and testing conceptsPreferred Skills and Qualifications (Exposure or Academic Experience is Acceptable)Familiarity with one or more of the following (hands-on or academic):Data pipelines (e.g., Airflow, Prefect, or cloud-native equivalents)Model deployment concepts (e.g., REST APIs, serverless patterns)Cloud platforms or AI services (AWS, Azure, GCP, OCI)Containerization concepts (Docker)CI/CD fundamentalsMonitoring or model versioning conceptsKey Attributes for SuccessStrong analytical and problem-solving skillsAbility to communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical audiencesWillingness to learn and adapt in a fast-evolving technical environmentAttention to detail and commitment to data qualityCollaborative mindset and openness to mentorship and feedbackWhat Luna Data OffersGreat work-life balanceWork on high profile projectsThis is an onsite contract opportunity based in Austin, TX and no sponsorship can be provided.
