Text resizeGeneral Description Of WorkThe Lee County Department of Social Services is seeking a dedicated Staff Development Social Work Trainer to lead the design, coordination, and delivery of training programs for professional social work staff for the Lee County Department of Social Services. This position will play a vital role in enhancing staff competencies, improving service delivery, and supporting the professional development of social worker staff. The individual in this role will work to identify training needs, design curriculum, and implement programs that promote professional growth, performance improvement, and continuous quality assurance.Key ResponsibilitiesThis position is responsible for assessing the training needs of social work staff and developing in‑house training programs to meet those needs. The role includes planning and conducting orientation sessions for new social workers, as well as facilitating mandated training programs in areas such as Child Protective Services, Foster Care, Adoptions, and Adult Services. The employee provides one‑on‑one coaching both in the field and in the office, and collaborates with social service agencies, educational institutions, and state and regional offices to coordinate training activities. Additional responsibilities include offering consultation to leadership on integrating training into routine supervision and staff meetings, maintaining detailed documentation of all training efforts, and reporting progress to leadership. The employee is expected to stay current with federal and state laws, regulations, and best practices relevant to social work and to perform other related duties as assigned.Knowledge, Skills, And AbilitiesThis position requires experience in CPS Assessment and Investigation, along with a thorough understanding of child abuse, neglect, and dependency as defined by North Carolina General Statutes. The employee must be able to manage conflict effectively, remain neutral and fair, engage clients, build trust, and foster collaboration and consensus. Strong judgment, the ability to apply best practices, and effective time‑management skills are essential for navigating complex situations. The role also requires flexibility, excellent communication skills, and a solid knowledge of child welfare policies and practices, with the ability to integrate this knowledge into sound social work practice. Computer proficiency and adaptability to varied tasks are necessary. The employee must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with County officials, department leadership, peers, and the general public.Education And ExperienceMaster’s degree from an accredited school of social work and one year of social work or counseling experience; OR Bachelor’s degree from an accredited school of social work and two years of social work or counseling experience; preference given to experience in Social Services working with Children’s Services and candidates who have had pre-service.Application ProcessPlease submit a Lee County Application, resume, cover letter, and college transcripts to the Lee County Human Resources Office, at 408 Summit Drive/ PO Box 1968, Sanford, NC 27331.
