As a Senior Product Engineer, you will make significant, hands‑on contributions to the design, quality, and delivery of critical product capabilities, with a strong focus on real‑world GIS workflows and user experience.This role is intended for an experienced engineer who demonstrates a deep, holistic understanding of how GIS software is applied in practice, and who consistently delivers high‑quality outcomes across design, implementation, testing, and validation.ResponsibilitiesHelp define and implement product functionality, contributing to tools, workflows, documentation, and test designTranslate user requirements and real‑world GIS workflows into well‑designed software functionality and user experiencesTake ownership of complex features or subsystems, contributing to technical design, implementation, and quality assuranceWork closely with Software Development Engineers to ensure functionality, usability, and overall product quality meet Esri standardsDesign and maintain holistic and unit‑level tests that ensure reliability and long‑term maintainability of the productParticipate actively in sprint planning, backlog refinement, and feature reviews, helping shape scope, priorities, and delivery approachesRespond to complex or high‑priority technical issues, contributing to diagnosis, resolution, and continuous improvementShare knowledge and guidance with other product engineers, contributing to team capability and consistency through informal mentoring and collaborationMay coordinate project timelines, scope, and dependencies for assigned features or initiativesRequirements5+ years of commercial software development experienceDemonstrated experience excelling in one or more aspects of Product Engineering, with the ability to contribute effectively across a broader subsystemStrong experience delivering production‑grade software, tests, or sample applications in a complex product environmentExperience taking customer feedback and applying it to improve software design and qualityProven ability to apply GIS concepts to real‑world problems and articulate effective implementation approachesExperience collaborating closely with software development teams to influence functionality, quality, and user experienceAbility to independently plan and deliver complex work while coordinating effectively with cross‑functional partnersStrong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical approaches and user workflows clearlyExperience contributing to documentation, blogs, or guidance that helps customers apply GIS best practicesBachelor’s degree in geography, GIS, computer science, engineering, or a related fieldRecommended QualificationsDemonstrated experience writing production‑level test frameworks, sample applications, or complex workflowsExperience working in applied GIS domains such as utilities, government, infrastructure, or field operationsMaster’s degree in geography, GIS, computer science, engineering, or a related fieldTotal RewardsEsri’s competitive total rewards strategy includes industry-leading health and welfare benefits: medical, dental, vision, basic and supplemental life insurance for employees (and their families), 401(k) and profit-sharing programs, minimum accrual of 80 hours of vacation leave, twelve paid holidays throughout the calendar year, and opportunities for personal and professional growth.
