Residential Direct Support Professional

Job Description Residential Support Staff provide direct care and supervision to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities living in a residential setting. Staff support individuals with daily living activities while promoting independence, dignity, and community inclusion. Residential staff also assist individuals in participating in community activities and ensuring their health, safety, and overall well-being.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Provide direct support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in a residential environment.Assist individuals with activities of daily living including personal hygiene, grooming, dressing, and meal preparation when needed.Support individuals in participating in community outings such as shopping, recreational activities, medical appointments, and social events.Encourage independence and assist individuals in developing life skills such as communication, decision-making, and money management.Follow and implement each individual's person-centered service plan, behavioral support plan, and health care recommendations.Monitor individuals' health, safety, and well-being at all times and respond appropriately to emergencies.Assist with transportation to community activities and appointments when required.Maintain a clean, safe, and supportive home environment.Complete required documentation including daily notes, incident reports, and activity logs.Communicate effectively with supervisors, team members, families, and other service providers.Support individuals in building positive relationships and becoming active members of their communities.Follow all agency policies, procedures, and applicable state regulations.Qualifications:High school diploma or GED required.Experience working with individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities preferred.Valid driver's license and reliable transportation preferred.Ability to pass required background checks and screenings.CPR and First Aid certification preferred or willingness to obtain.Ability to work flexible schedules including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.Skills and Competencies:Compassion, patience, and respect for individuals with disabilities.Strong communication and interpersonal skills.Ability to promote independence while providing appropriate support.Problem-solving skills and the ability to remain calm in challenging situations.Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.Residential Support Staff work in a group home or residential setting and regularly accompany individuals into the community.
