Compliance Engineer

ApplyJob TypeFull-timeDescriptionThis position will lead and support product compliance activities across domestic and international markets. This role is responsible for ensuring that all products meet applicable regulatory, certification, and safety standards throughout the product lifecycle, from design and development through production and market release.The ideal candidate will work cross-functionally with Engineering, Quality, Operations, Suppliers and external certification bodies to drive compliance strategies, manage certifications, and mitigate regulatory risk.Duties and responsibilitiesLead compliance efforts for new and existing products to meet domestic and international regulatory and safety requirementsManage product certifications and approvals, including but not limited to UL, ETL, CSA, CE, UKCA, IEC, FCC, and other global standardsServe as the primary technical contact with third-party certification agencies, test labs, and regulatory authoritiesInterpret and apply applicable standards related to electrical safety, mechanical safety, EMC, energy efficiency, and environmental complianceSupport product design reviews to ensure compliance is addressed early in the development processCoordinate and support compliance testing, including sample preparation, documentation, corrective actions, and follow-up testingMaintain and manage compliance documentation, technical files, declarations of conformity, and certification recordsMonitor changes in regulatory requirements and standards, and assess impact on existing and future productsSupport manufacturing and supply chain teams to ensure ongoing compliance during production and supplier changesAssist with audits, inspections, and customer compliance inquiriesProvide guidance and training to internal teams on compliance requirements and best practicesCoordinate, perform and document Safety Risk Assessments to prevailing safety standards and provide corrective action feedback to design engineersPerform other related tasks as assignedRequirementsQualificationsBachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related engineering discipline5+ years of experience in product compliance, certification, or regulatory engineeringStrong working knowledge of North American and international safety standardsExperience working directly with certification bodies and test laboratoriesAbility to read, interpret, and apply technical standards and regulationsStrong documentation, organizational, and communication skillsAbility to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environmentSelf-starter and hands-on approachProficient in Microsoft Office including: Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, WordMust be effective communicator as will provide other organizations, i.e. sales personnel with compliance related informationPreferred QualificationsExperience with commercial equipment, appliances, or industrial productsFamiliarity with CE marking, EU directives (LVD, EMC, RoHS), and international market access requirementsExperience supporting products through UL or equivalent safety testingKnowledge of quality systems and product lifecycle processesPrior experience in a manufacturing or product development environmentWorking conditionsThis position will be based in an office setting, but at times will require a hands-on approach. Occasional review of products on the production line, and/or time in a lab setting should be expected.Travel required up to 20%.Physical requirementsWill be required to lift up to 30lbs occasionally.Direct reportsNone
