Database Administrator - Selby Jennings

The RoleThe firm is seeking a Database Administrator to help maintain, enhance, and evolve its database and data infrastructure. This is a hands‑on role with ownership over mission‑critical systems, working closely with engineers, technologists, and business stakeholders.The position offers exposure to multiple database technologies and the opportunity to influence both day‑to‑day operations and longer‑term data platform strategy.Key ResponsibilitiesMaintain, optimize, and support production database environments across multiple platformsAnalyze existing application and database architectures, including:A third‑party booking and risk management platformMultiple in‑house developed systems using different database technologiesContribute to technical strategy and decisions around data models and database designEnsure databases are appropriately resourced for performance, scalability, and resilienceImplement and maintain monitoring to minimize downtime and improve observabilityPerform routine operational tasks such as installations, upgrades, patching, and disaster recovery testingTroubleshoot live production issues through to resolution, including post‑mortems and root‑cause analysisParticipate in discussions, prototyping, testing, and support of next‑generation database solutionsMust‑Have Technical RequirementsCandidates must have hands‑on, production experience with all of the following technologies:PostgreSQLMicrosoft SQL ServerMongoDBClickHouseIn addition, candidates should have:Strong expertise in ANSI SQL (DDL, DML, normalization, transactions)Deep understanding of query optimization, indexing strategies, and performance tuningExperience with profilers, query analyzers, and execution plansSolid knowledge of data warehousing concepts, schema design, and partitioningUnderstanding of database security, access control, and auditing
