Network Security Engineer
Job SummaryOur client, a leading convenience retail and fuel operations provider, is seeking a Network Security Engineer to join their Infrastructure and Security team. This role will be responsible for maintaining, optimizing, and securing enterprise network security platforms while partnering with internal business and technology teams to ensure projects and deployments maintain an appropriate security posture. The ideal candidate is a proactive problem solver who takes ownership of complex issues, drives them through resolution, and demonstrates a strong understanding of network security concepts. This position requires a passion for learning new technologies, strong troubleshooting abilities, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.Core ResponsibilitiesManage and maintain enterprise, store, and cloud network security environments, including firewalls, network filters, intrusion prevention policies, and access controlsConfigure, troubleshoot, and migrate site-to-site and remote-access VPN connectivity while supporting secure authentication and multi-factor authentication solutionsAdminister and optimize web application security, web access proxy, URL filtering, DNS security, and related network security platformsPerform firewall policy reviews, security audits, vulnerability remediation, platform testing, operating system hardening, and attack-surface reduction activitiesConduct network security architecture and third-party risk management reviews and provide recommendations for mitigating identified security risksDevelop and maintain network security policies, standards, procedures, documentation, diagrams, exception processes, and technical workflowsCollaborate with senior engineers, development teams, engineering teams, and other business units to define security requirements, implement compensating controls, and advance the organization's overall security postureRequired Skills/Experience (Must-Haves)Bachelor's degree in IT, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience3+ years of professional network security engineering experience, or equivalent experience based on educationStrong understanding of TCP/IP, routing, switching, DNS, SSL/TLS, network security principles, and security architectureHands-on experience administering and troubleshooting enterprise firewalls and network security policiesExperience with site-to-site and remote-access VPN technologies, including troubleshooting connectivity and validating configurationsExperience with network security technologies such as intrusion prevention, network access control, authentication/authorization, MFA, DNS security, and URL filteringStrong troubleshooting, analytical, documentation, and problem-solving skills with the ability to independently drive issues to resolutionPreferred Skills/Experience (Nice-to-Haves)Experience with Palo Alto firewalls, GlobalProtect, and related network security platformsExperience administering and tuning Imperva Web Application Firewall (WAF) environmentsPCNSA, PCNSE, CCNA/CCNP Security, JNCIA-SEC/JNCIS-SEC, or equivalent network security certificationSecurity+, GSEC, CISSP, CISA, CEH, or another industry-recognized information security certificationExperience with Azure, AWS, or GCP cloud environments and cloud network securityKnowledge of Zero Trust networking principles and modern security architectureExperience in convenience retail, fuel operations, supply chain, or similarly distributed enterprise environmentsKey Competencies & BehaviorsTakes ownership of issues and projects and drives them through resolution with minimal technical directionEvaluates complex situations and data to identify root causes and develop effective, sometimes creative solutionsDemonstrates a passion for learning new technologies and expanding technical expertiseWorks effectively with senior engineers, junior teammates, development teams, engineering teams, and business stakeholdersPrioritizes tasks and projects based on business objectives while maintaining a strong security postureWork EnvironmentLocation: Irving, TXWork Arrangement: OnsiteSchedule: Full-time; occasional after-hours support may be required.Travel: No travel requirements.Compensation & BenefitsPay Range: The approximate pay range for this position is between $39.00 and $56.00 per hour. Please note that the pay range provided is a good faith estimate. Final compensation may vary based on factors including but not limited to background, knowledge, skills, and location.
